It’s hard to care about the election currently being stolen in Minnesota.

It’s holiday-time and you’re baking (or eating) cookies, traveling to see family and generally taking part in the spirit (or spirits) of the season. I don’t blame you, I don’t. I want to leave the 2008 election behind and look toward the future too. But if you’re a conservative, or even if you’re just interested in every vote being counted as it should be, we must collectively start caring and hollering about Minnesota.

John Lott has done amazing work in tracking the ridiculous ballot counting process. Illustrating his points with photographs, Lott explains how there is no consistent basis for looking at the ballots. For example, an X over the oval for Coleman has been counted as a vote for Franken while an X over the oval for Franken remains a vote for Franken. And the rules keep changing when it benefits Franken:

Since the recount showed that there were 171 more ballots than recorded votes, the decision was to add in the ballots, giving Franken a net gain of 37 votes.

Contrast this to the 133 ballots in Minneapolis. The 133-vote problem arose because more votes were recorded on Election Day than were found when the recount was conducted. The initial explanation was that the ballots must have been accidentally run through the voting machine twice — that no votes were missing, but that 133 had just been accidentally counted twice. The Canvassing Board however decided not to rely on the recount and instead on the original machine totals.

The only commonality in these two decisions was that the outcome benefited Franken. When the recount is in Franken’s favor that is used. When the original machine tally works best that is used.

I know it’s the second night of Hanukkah and two days before Christmas. And I realize there isn’t much we can do to fight this ridiculous situation. But let’s at least pay attention to the fraud happening in Minnesota, forward around Lott’s work and get angry! The Democrats are trying to steal another one. Let’s notice and try to stop them. It’s the least we can do for our democracy.
