Imam Rauf on Larry King Live — UPDATED!!

Imam Rauf claims that he has “a responsibility” to build the mosque, otherwise radical Islamists around the world will threaten “national security.” In other words, screw the sensitivity concerns of Americans, you’ll be blown to bits if you don’t back off from my Victory Mosque. The man who continues to talk about healing and building bridges has thrown down the gauntlet. He created this entire situation by demanding that his mega-mosque be built in this exact location, despite the legitimate concerns of families of lost heroes whom he claims to care about. And now that the opposition of this mosque has fully engaged and has successfully swayed a vast majority of Americans to their side, he tells an international audience that if his plans don’t go forward, America’s national security will be at risk.

It could be that the Imam’s threats, delivered in calm even tones, might end up doing more for the case against his mosque than any rally in the streets could ever do. And given Mr. Rauf’s knowledge of the irrational and violent nature of the most radical practitioners of his faith, one has to challenge his judgement in even proposing this project in the first place.

This guy's slick but he's a bad liar. Watch when Soledad hits him with the money question around the 4:00 mark. Huge halting pause, looking down as if constructing a narrative or hiding guilt, then collects himself to get back into his smarmy-British-accent air of superiority. He can't maintain it though as he clearly starts talking out his ass, falling back on “I'm sensitive” when pressed.

I'll give her credit though, she doesn't let Rauf off the hook, and he comes off very poorly in the second half of the interview. After this, he won't be fooling anybody.

This claim would ring less hollow were it not for the fact that Rauf has expressed apparent agreement with at least some radical Islamist beliefs. He has blamed America for 9/11 and he has refused to condemn Hamas as a terrorist organizations. This combined with his thinly veiled threat of muslim violence if his mosque isn't built raises serious red flags for me.

I can only speak for myself here but I think I would be a lot more open to this mosque project if it were being headed by a different Imam. One who expressed unambiguous and unconditional condemnation for Hamas and all other terrorist organizations. One who didn't choose to go on donation drives through the Middle East. One who didn't accuse the United States of being an “accessory” to 9/11.

I'd also like him to answer some other questions. Like whether he believes Israel has a right to exist and what should be done about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. And whether he would support the institution of Sharia law into US law, and to what extent.

Glenn Beck recently reported that Feisal created Perdana Peace Initiative or Org. in the Middle East, which created “Free Gaza” which built the “Free Gaza Flotilla” – which attempted to run arms and munitions to Hamas by breaking the blockade Israel formed because of the voyage of the MV Iran Deyanat of August, 2008 which attempted to run a full dirty cargo to an Israeli Port City and there, blow the city off the planet.

Iran funds Hamas, that Feisal and Bill Ayers tried to run guns to in the Free Gaza Flotilla, and soon will try again in Rashid Khalidi's Audacity of Hope Flotilla to follow in Free Gaza Flotilla's footsteps.

This is very much a threat to do violence to the United States of America. This is an outright provocation, directly and deliberately attempting to incite violence.

This is no longer a matter of respect. This is an illegal threat of violence. “If you don't let me build the Mosque, we'll launch an even wider terrorist campaign.” Arrest him and send him to Gitmo where he belongs. Expropriate that land and build a memorial to the victims of Islamic terrorism.

These b@stards keep pushing and pushing Americans and eventually we are going to puch back. Americans are the most generous, forgiving and tolerant people on the planet (with the notable exception of extreme leftists of which there are far too many), but once we've reached our limits and have turned the check only to slapped again or stabbed in the back, again, we will put an end to our enemies permanently.

The push back may not come for another ten or twenty years, or even more but when it does, it will make Dresden, Hiroshima and Nagasaki look like slap fights in a middle-school girls' bathrooom.

This isn't a threat or even a prediction. Eventually, they will push us too far and we will respond by paying them back for every terrorist attack that has taken place over the last thirty, forty, fifty years and we will settle the question of violent jihad the same way we settled the problem of German and Japanese military agression.

The only reason this country is dependent on oil is because we managed, through military imperialism, to control the area of the world producing the most oil. This has kept the price of oil down but at what cost? Events like 9/11 are the price way pay for cheap oil.
