Juicy Rumor Of The Day

Juicy Rumor Of The Day: Here’s the explosive 12th paragraph of a Stephen Pollard column in the Telegraph today…

“Well-connected advisers tell me that if, as now seems likely, the UN refuses to back action against terror, Mr Bush will announce a “temporary” suspension of America’s membership, to be accompanied by an offer: if the UN gets its act together and carries out long-overdue reforms, America (and its money) will return. But if there is no reform, the temporary withdrawal will, de facto, become permanent.”

My oh my, I expect that will get some people’s attention when it gets out. It’s a shame that it’s probably not true. W. is already talking about getting the UN involved in the North Korea situation and I think W. would take too much of a political blow to seriously consider pulling out of the UN — at least in his first term.

However, floating something like this can be valuable because other nations have to take it seriously. Not only because there are a lot of rock ribbed Conservatives in the Bush administration who probably would like to pull out of the UN, but because once George Bush makes a decision it’s very difficult to change his mind. So if Bush decided that we were going to leave the UN — then you can bet your bottom dollar it’s going to happen. That has to make Kofi Annan think twice, because without the influence, money, and military might of the United States, the UN will go from being a pathetic & toothless debating society…well to an even more pathetic & toothless debating society. Even so, it’s a good idea to remind the ninnies at the UN that they may have to pay a big price for taking us for granted.
