Mitt And Newt’s Approval Ratings Of Doom Vs. Those Of Past Candidates

by John Hawkins | February 2, 2012 4:07 am

Mitt and Newt have been waging an all out negative war against each other and in the process, both candidates have been greatly damaged. How lasting the damage will be after someone wraps up the nomination remains to be seen, but people shouldn’t kid themselves; both Newt and Mitt have extraordinarily bad approval numbers right now (Santorum’s numbers aren’t so hot either, but he has much lower negatives than either Romney or Gingrich and looks to have more room to grow).

Just to give you a little perspective….

Approval Ratings
——————–
Barack Obama right now:[1] 48.0%
The worst rating of Reagan’s presidency in 1983:[2] 35%
Harry Truman at the end of his term:[3] 32%
Rick Santorum:[4] 29.6%
Mitt Romney:[5] 28.9%
Newt Gingrich:[6] 25.7%
Nixon the month he resigned over Watergate:[7] 24%
George W. Bush’s final approval rating:[8] 22%
