AP gets the prize for the weekend’s most Orwellian lede:

President-elect Barack Obama on Saturday named Harvard physicist John Holdren and marine biologist Jane Lubchenco to top science posts, signaling a change from Bush administration policies on global warming that were criticized for putting politics over science.

Holdren appears to be a militant leftist first, a scientist sometime afterward. As NRO notes, as recently as 2006 Holdren was still spewing long discredited antihuman rhetoric borrowed from Paul Ehrlich’s The Population Bomb, according to which we should all be dead by now of overpopulation. The ecofascist Holdren is opposed to free markets and in favor of nuclear disarmament.

Lubchenco too is a moonbat, whose career has been built on fluffy liberal pseudoscience involving biodiversity, global warming, “sustainability science,” et cetera ad nauseam.

To suggest that these leftist apparatchiks represent putting science over politics is preposterous even by AP standards. But as usual, media toadies are only following The One’s lead. Intones the Moonbat Messiah:

[P]romoting science isn’t just about providing resources — it’s about protecting free and open inquiry. It’s about ensuring that facts and evidence are never twisted or obscured by politics or ideology. I could not have a better team [of hard left ideologues] to guide me in this work.

No doubt Joseph Stalin thought the same of Trofim Lysenko, whose crackpot ideology led to the starvation of thousands of Russians when it was imposed by the State.

President BHO will be advised that it is scientific fact that the planet is imperiled because there are too many humans and we are living too well. No doubt Obama’s other advisors will be well-suited to provide solutions to these supposed problems.
