Obama Establishes Bipartisan National Commission on BP Deepwater Horizon and Offshore Drilling
Written By : Donald Douglas

It’s mind-boggling when you look at the big picture sometimes. Here’s my morning paper, with this lovely front-cover photograph of the oil-soaked dead bird, with the headline, “Spill’s Ugly Reality Sets In“:

Photobucket

Millions of Southern Californians will see the paper, and naturally — like any thoughtful, caring person — they’ll be filled with revulsion at the sight of the environmental damage and loss of life. Exactly what the Times’ editors hoped to solicit.

Then on top of that, the neo-communist left is working the Gulf spill for all it’s worth, rekindling hardline efforts to destroy the domestic petroleum industry and empower the radical green-government takeover of America. Of course, President Obama’s been getting hammered by the radical hordes, who’re steadily working him back into his radical ACORN community organizing roots:

And notice how it’s all coming together nicely. Never let a crisis go to waste, remember? Obama’s always been partial to a state takeover of energy:

And now, conveniently, the president’s completely free to exploit BP Deepwater Horizon for massive ideological impact. See, “Weekly Address: President Obama Establishes Bipartisan National Commission on the BP Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill and Offshore Drilling” (via Memorandum). And here’s the key open-ended commitment to “punish” big business:

First and foremost, what led to this disaster was a breakdown of responsibility on the part of BP and perhaps others, including Transocean and Halliburton. And we will continue to hold the relevant companies accountable not only for being forthcoming and transparent about the facts surrounding the leak, but for shutting it down, repairing the damage it does, and repaying Americans who’ve suffered a financial loss.

But even as we continue to hold BP accountable, we also need to hold Washington accountable. Now, this catastrophe is unprecedented in its nature, and it presents a host of new challenges we are working to address. But the question is what lessons we can learn from this disaster to make sure it never happens again.

This is how free markets — to say nothing of democracies — perish. Yep, behold the Democratic-left’s modus operandi. And watch the upcoming feedback loop: The administration proposes more regulation, that’s insufficient for the leftists, and after a couple more iterations of the policy cycle, the administration tops off the previous recommendations with a new beefier set of regulations.

Time for Americans to stand up and fight.

That is why Libertarian minded Rand Paul caught on with the Kentucky electorate. He is not afraid to walk the talk in standing up for the US Constitution. It was a breath of fresh air to hear Rand stand up and declare that jumping on BP for letting oil slime up the beaches of the gulf coast states is “Un American.” That is exaclty right. Free enterprize is the engine by which business takes risks for the long term benefit of all. If the beaches of the gulf coast states get slimed in the process, too bad. Its all a part of risk inherent in free enterprize markets.

I see you are still using oil products. Some “outrage” you have.

    • Christopher_Taylor

Good thing you voted for President Obama in the last election, being a big libertarian and all.

When Chris can't refute the message, he attacks the messenger.

      flagged for blatant lie.

I'd flag for spam but for some reason the flag button isn't showing up on my browsers. Surely the mods are aware of what spam is, right?

dear god hoggo. you aren't even trying anymore are you? Why don't you blabber on about “guns and butter” for old times sake? Or maybe tell us how awesome Washinton state is. You know when most trolls are spotted and return they at least try to act like some one else for a while.

      • http://networdblog.blogspot.com Christopher_Taylor

He's desperate to find the lever that will turn conservatives away from the GOP at all costs. His latest theory is that he can get people to vote libertarian and thus amount to nothing in the general election, saving his beloved Democrats from humiliating defeat in November. Its hilarious to watch, the guy thinks he's a one-man spin factory, manipulating thousands. In reality we just sit and laugh.

        • Power_System_Oper

Like mighty, Nixon, and Trench, Chris can only resort to the lame tactic of attacking the messenger when he cannot refute the message.

          • http://networdblog.blogspot.com Christopher_Taylor

            Hee hee… Obama voter.

          • Vegeta1

better that than to constantly return to a website you've been banned from at least 8 times and continue to troll no matter how many times you're outed. For Gods sweet sake get a fucking life you worthless troll. No one here is buying your bull so give it up.

My God, man, exactly how long are you going to flog that dead horse? You hide behind this “see how nasty he is for attacking me” response every time that people point out any weaknesses in your ideas, or your presentation of those ideas.

You're the one who's chosen to infest a site at which your views are completely out of step with virtually everyone there – both left and right. Of course that virtually guarantees that no one is going to agree with you, and that most of the comments you receive are going to be negative.

But then, you play this insipid game of whinging about it when other people start playing with you like a cat plays with a 'soon-to-be dinner' mouse. Give it a rest old man. Either stand up and fight, or go away – please don't continue to embarrass yourself by whinging about each little body blow you take.

You came here for a fight, we all know it – so why p*ss and moan about getting hit?

          • http://networdblog.blogspot.com Christopher_Taylor

He doesn't realize that his points are self-refuting, and after demolishing his ideas five or six times, mockery is all that's needed.

          • http://conservativebootcamp.com Martin Hale

            I completely understand and agree.

I find it hilarious that he comes to a website specifically to be controversial (see the quote which TheDickNixon posts), then when he gets the predictable response, all he can do is cry like a p*ssy baby that people are attacking the messenger, not the message. He fails to comprehend that to most people, both the messenger and his message can summed up in one word – stupid. It really doesn't matter whether one is attacking the message or the messenger – it's all pretty much the same outcome.

In over two years of watching him, I am astounded that it still hasn't occurred to this fool that the one sure way to stop people from attacking him is to present cogent points, tightly argued. If he'd only figure that out, he wouldn't get his little feelings hurt so darn often and he wouldn't have to whinge “wahhhh – mummy they're attacking the messenger not the message” so often.

      Are you being sarcastic?
Didn't Paul say Obama was too hard on BP?

      Just saying?

You are one of those bright eyed people that goes around singing the smurf's theme song whenever your mouth isnt spouting off whatever surface thought rattles through your empty head huh?

There are Depts. in the govt that have been acting on these emergencies for generations.
But when they turn the heat up under Odrama Queen, he thinks “action” means “create a new commission”.
There is a real community organizer/professor in action for ya!

OBAMA: To avoid being mistaken for a sellout, I chose my friends carefully. The more politically active black students; the foreign students; the Chicanos; the Marxist professors and structural feminists and punk-rock performance poets.

Re the Video of Obama about coal-powered plants:

OBAMA: Let me sort of describe my overall policy.

What I’ve said is that we would put a cap and trade system in place that is as aggressive, if not more aggressive, than anybody else’s out there.

I was the first to call for a 100% auction on the cap and trade system, which means that every unit of carbon or greenhouse gases emitted would be charged to the polluter. That will create a market in which whatever technologies are out there that are being presented, whatever power plants that are being built, that they would have to meet the rigors of that market and the ratcheted down caps that are being placed, imposed every year.

So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can; it’s just that it will bankrupt them because they’re going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that’s being emitted.

That will also generate billions of dollars that we can invest in solar, wind, biodiesel and other alternative energy approaches.

The only thing I’ve said with respect to coal, I haven’t been some coal booster. What I have said is that for us to take coal off the table as a ideological matter as opposed to saying if technology allows us to use coal in a clean way, we should pursue it.

So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can.

It’s just that it will bankrupt them.

What the government needs to look into – and won't – is how BP was given exemptions to various inspections. The cronyism between big business and government is what causes the problems, not a lack of sufficient regulation. Fix that, and you fix a lot of the problems because the market will take care of much of the rest.

  • http://networdblog.blogspot.com Christopher_Taylor

They've been desperate to find that dead oil-soaked bird, apparently they finally found one – or grabbed a dead bird and dipped him in oil for the photo op.

  • Power_System_Oper

Yes Rand Paul did. He said Obama's jumping on BP over the oil spill was “Un-American” That is what is so refreshing about Rand Paul. While other self proclaimed conservative politicians such as GOP Louisana Governor Jindal have also started turn ing on BP, Rand Paul is standing tall for free markets. Even Sarah Palin has turned squishy on the issue. She now likes tp emphasize her involvement in holding Big Oil'f feet to the fire over the Exxon Valdez incident while putting her previous “drill baby drill” call to action on the back burner.
