Owner of Pit Bull That Mauled 7-Year-Old Fights Order to Have it Killed

At the risk of offending dog lovers, can I just say I loathe pit bulls? Despite making up 4 percent of the dog population, these hideous beasts are responsible for more than 90 percent of all fatal dog attacks–and the number of people mauled to death by pit bulls has seen a sharp increase in recent years.:  Why? Part of it is the nature of this vicious dog breed, but there’s also the fact that their owners tend to have attitude problems, and blame the victim whenever their nice, cuddly pit bull attacks someone. The owner of a pit bull-mix in Indiana is campaigning to save it from being euthanized after the dog mauled the neighbor’s seven-year-old daughter. :

At least she survived–despite propaganda put out by pit bull owners and idiot animal-rights activists, pit bulls kill almost 200 Americans every year. (52% of the time, the person killed is the dog’s foolish owner, who inevitably insisted their pit bull was “nice.”)

The two-year-old neutered dog had been ordered to be euthanized by April 16, but Mr Butrym has launched an appeal, claiming his dog made a mistake and isn’t aggressive.

‘Whatever happened to forgiveness?’ Mr Butrym asked on a Facebook campaign page. ‘Saving Gus is not at the expense of the little girl. It’s not Gus or her.’…Mr Butrym denied claims that it was the second time his dog had bitten someone in the neighborhood.

Of course it’s the second time. However, I have a solution. Since dogs are technically considered property under the law, let’s start charging dog owners with assault or manslaughter whenever their dogs attack someone. If they’re actually forced to take responsibility, I bet a lot of owners will think twice before letting their “nice” pit bulls run loose.
