Poll Of The Day: America Still Rejects The Democratic Foreign Policy Position

Newsweek polled 1,006 adults on Thursday and Friday and the results will certainly be a shock to any Democrats who think that their irresponsible and dangerous foreign policy positions have a mandate because of their win last Tuesday:

“Huge majorities of those polled said they approved of the legislative priorities cited by Democratic leaders after their party seized control of the Senate and the House of Representatives from Republicans, the magazine said.

…The strongest support, 92 percent, was for lowering drug prices for retirees on Medicare by allowing the government to negotiate directly with drug companies. Some three-quarters of respondents said it should be a top priority, according to Newsweek.

…While a bare majority of 51 percent called the Democrats’ victory “a good thing,” even more said they were concerned about some of the actions a Democratic Congress might take, including 78 percent who were somewhat or very concerned that it would seek too hasty a withdrawal of troops from Iraq.

Another 69 percent said they were concerned that the new Congress would keep the administration “from doing what is necessary to combat terrorism,” and two-thirds said they were concerned it would spend too much time investigating the administration and Republican scandals.”

Put another way, the public saw nothing to love in the GOP’s domestic positions, disapproves of the job George Bush has done, and isn’t happy with the way that things have gone in Iraq, but they don’t want the Democrats going nuts investigating the GOP and fear (correctly, I might add) that the Democrats will try to cut and run in Iraq and will work to make America vulnerable to terrorism.

Of course, the Democrats won’t heed the warning that’s in these polling numbers. That’s because the Democrats get particularly wacky at two different times. Right after they believe that they’ve lost, they get mean, flaky, and conspiratorial. On the other hand, right after they win, usually by hiding their agenda and campaigning on anything but their liberal beliefs, they grow overconfident and start telling people what they really want to do.

At the moment, the Democrats are already talking about all the investigations they plan to do on their way to impeachment (and yes, despite the fact that they’re denying it today, they will try it) and are itching to find a way to surrender to Al-Qaeda in Iraq by the end of May at the latest. But don’t worry, they’ll get around to making it easier for Al-Qaeda to murder Americans soon. It’s just what they do. In fact, you could go out and ask Osama Bin Laden his position on national security issues and you can be sure that it would be indistinguishable from that of about 80+% of the Democrats in Congress if you ignored all the “you infidels,” “sons of pigs and monkeys,” and “Alla Akbars” that Bin Laden would probably toss in.

That’s who is controlling Congress for, at a minimum, the next two years.
