Q&A Friday #72: What Are The Underlying Causes Of Bush Dementia Syndrome?

by John Hawkins | August 24, 2007 4:29 pm

Question: “With your background in psychology, could you give a clinical opinion as to the underlying causes for the BDS (and the general anti-America sentiment) that is so very prevalent on the Left side of the political spectrum today?” — Good_Ol_Boy

Answer: If you want to get to the root of it, you really don’t have to go much further than this quote,

“To understand the workings of American politics, you have to understand this fundamental law: Conservatives think liberals are stupid. Liberals think conservatives are evil.” — Charles Krauthammer

Krauthammer says “stupid” while I’d say liberals are naive, shallow, and rely on emotion instead of logic, but you get the general idea.

Because liberals think Republicans in general and Bush specifically are evil, they tend to believe that,

* Bush stole the election.

* He must have some ulterior motive for taking us to war.

* That Bush, like all conservatives, wants old people to eat dogfood, that he secretly agrees with the KKK, that he wants to poison the water and air that we all breathe, etc., etc.

Once you come to the conclusion that conservatives don’t just have a different philosophy than you, that they actually do what they do because they’re evil, then it’s a pretty short leap to compare Bush to Hitler and assume that Karl Rove talked Jenna Bush into getting married in an attempt to spike her father’s approval ratings.
