Q&A Friday #74: Is It A War On Terror Or Something Else?

by John Hawkins | September 21, 2007 12:32 pm

Question: “i was wondering if you think that the war on terror is really just that or if it really is more of a war between the west, Islam, Islam’s ideals and Islam’s culture. And if you do see it as just the war on terror what do you think of people who say that there underlying factors in Islam that open it to and make it almost certain that any culture ruled by Islam will be anti-western?” — adam123

Answer: I think either the “war on terror” or “war on radical Islam” would cover it adequately, because, “A war on Muslim terrorists and their supporters who target the United States,” is a little too wordy.

Is any Islamic culture guaranteed to be anti-Western? I don’t think so. There was a time when Islamic cultures in the Middle-East were comparable to and in some ways superior to Western cultures and I think that’s possible again.

But, it’s not going to happen as long as most of the Islamic World consists of backwards people, controlled by dictators, and overly influenced by thuggish radical Islamists who are allowed to run wild in defiance of the rule of law.
