Q&A Friday #86: Wright Is Obama’s Swift Boat Veterans For Truth.
Question: “I have been wondering who caused those videos of Jeremish Wright preaching anti-Americanism and race hatred to come out. Media outlets talk about them as though they just spontaneously appeared from nowhere, saying they “surfaced” on the internet. Do you think someone deliberately pushed them out to the MSM — and by “someone” I mean “someone in the Hillary campaign?” — CavalierX
Answer: Usually, big, damaging stories like this that break during a hot political race come from the opposing side in a campaign. Campaigns hire opposition researchers, they dig up dirt; then they whisper in a friendly reporter’s ear and next thing you know, the information is live.
However, I’m not sure that’s the case in this instance because Wright has been a looming problem for Obama’s campaign for such a long period of time. Obama got a debate question about Wright back in January, Bloggers have been talking about Wright for months and way back in Feb of 2007, Wright said that Obama told him, “You can get kind of rough in the sermons, so what we’ve decided is that it’s best for you not to be out there in public.”
In a sense, Wright is the equivalent of the Swift Boat Vets for Barack. Let me explain what I mean by that.
As Mark Steyn once brilliantly said of John Kerry, “He spent the Seventies playing Jane Fonda and he now wants to run as John Wayne.”
In other words, Kerry made a name for himself in politics smearing the other soldiers who fought in Vietnam, not based on what he did during the war. So, when he tried to re-invent himself as a war hero in 2004 and worse yet, made it the centerpiece of his campaign, he was practically begging the Swift Boat Vets to come after him. You had all these veterans who knew Kerry wasn’t a hero and who were highly motivated to come after him publicly, because they felt like he had tarnished their honor and the honor of their friends who died in Vietnam. The rest was history and the whole kerfluffle was tremendously damaging to Kerry because the Swifties hit Kerry at his strongest point and absolutely decimated him.
In Barack’s case, he has presented himself as a “post-racial” unifier who brings Republicans and Democrats together. A significant portion of his appeal to whites is based on that very image.
However, Barack may talk the talk, but the fact that he’s so closely tied to Wright proves he’s not walking the walk. So, in other words, Wright is doing to Obama what the Swifties did to Kerry: undercutting one of the central themes of his campaign.
Moreover, nobody had to leak info about the Swift Boat Vets or Wright to the press. They were both skeletons in the closets of politicians running incredibly dishonest campaigns and eventually, they were bound to come to light.
