Q&A Friday #91: When RWN’s Content Goes Live…

by John Hawkins | June 27, 2008 10:33 am

Question: “Before your format change it seemed daily content was posted in the wee hours of the morning. That worked out great for coffee reading. What time do your posts/updates go up now? Is it a fixed time or whatever works out on that particular day?” — NorthernCanuck

Answer: I’ve been experimenting with doing posts starting at around 8 AM or 9 AM instead of having all the posts up before most people get up.

It’s a pluses and minuses type of argument.

If you have the posts up in the wee hours, there is content up when people start looking at your posts and you tend to get more links.

On the other hand, if you wait a little longer, you get more hits from people looking at RWN via RSS readers and the content tends to obviously be a little fresher.

Long story short, today was the last day of the experiment and the decision is in; wee hours is better.

So, after next week, when I’ll be on vacation and will have guest bloggers filling in for me, I will be going back to an early morning schedule.
