Quote Of The Day

by McQ | February 9, 2010 10:11 pm

The QOTD for today actually comes to us from a NY Times editorial in 2005[1] which clearly states their understanding of the job of an opposition party:

Mr. Bush has reacted by railing against Democrats for obstruction — as if Democrats are duty-bound to breathe life into his agenda and, even sillier, as if opposing a plan that the people do not want is an illegitimate tactic for an opposition party.

Why I believe that is exactly the point the right is now arguing. As witnessed by the editorial, the Democrats, lefty blogs and much of the media thought it was fair play in 2005. Take heed, Republicans and don’t end up breathing life into a corpse. The Democrats didn’t apologize for killing Social Security reform. And it obviously didn’t hurt them electorally.

Question: did killing SS reform in 2005 make America “ungovernable?”

More importantly, did that mean the NY Times wanted the Bush agenda to “fail”?

Heh … Archives are a bitch, aren’t they?

Quote of the Day

by Sister Toldjah | July 12, 2009 6:16 pm

Via Hugh S. at Wizbang[1]:

Let’s assume just for fun that AG Holder actually is operating independently. Who will be the actual targets of this investigation? George Bush? Not likely given the protections of executive priveledge. Dick Cheney? Not likely for the same reasons. President Bush’s advisors? Not likely either, for reasons that are protected by executive priveldge and lack of evidence (they did nothing wrong). Congress?…. (OK, that was a joke.) Which CIA do we believe, the one that [sabotaged] President Bush or the one that allegedly lied to Nancy Pelosi?

The entire torture prosecution meme, and the Potemkin Panetta “lying to Congress” Theatre, is all part of a two scene drama: the rehabilitation of Nancy Pelosi and the diversion of attention from a failing Obama policy in multiple areas. The torture debate was settled months ago but the egos in the Democratic Congress and a sinking Obama presidency require a new distraction now that Sarah Palin is off the front page.

… on AG Holder’s reconsideration[2] of whether or not to prosecute members of the Bush administration for the alleged “authorized torture” that took place under Bush’s administration, allegations that have been ramped up thanks to Obama’s helpful friends in the Democrat Congress and mainstream media over the last several days (think the AP[3], the NYT[4] and the WaPo[5]).

Quote of the Day

by McQ | June 10, 2009 5:13 pm

It comes from James Delingpole of the UK Telegraph[1]:

Modern China cares about as much about “anthropogenic global warming” as Chairman Mao did about providing his population with five-course steak dinners. AGW’s only use, as far as the Chinese are concerned, is as an ingenious device to suck up money and power from the gullible west.

There is the truth that “must not be spoken”. That is the bottom line and anyone who has followed this “debate” and hasn’t been able to discern precisely what Delingpole states as the truth hasn’t been paying attention.

China is not, let me repeat that – not – going to jeopardize its economic growth over something it flat doesn’t believe to be a problem. But it will seize every opportunity to “negotiate” free money and technology from the west – if we’ll pay for it, they’ll take it.

And the naive bunch we have running the show now, despite unheard of deficit spending, are more than willing to do precisely that – just watch.

Quote of the Day

by Sharon Soon | July 22, 2008 5:12 pm

Well, make that two quotes.

A very accurate analogy regarding the Democrats’ energy plan:

Conservation, efficiency and using oil we hold in reserve for emergencies does not get us more energy. It’s as if we were running out of food and the Democrats were telling us: “Just eat a little less every day.” Great! We’ll die a little more slowly. That’s not what we call a “plan.” We need more energy, not a plan for a slower death.

-Ann Coulter

A profound insight into the real motives of most politicians (particularly liberal):

One of the most naive notions is that politicians are trying to solve the country’s problems, just because they say so — or say so loudly or inspiringly.

Politicians’ top priority is to solve their own problem, which is how to get elected and then re-elected. Barack Obama is a politician through and through, even though pretending that he is not is his special strategy to get elected.

Quote Of The Day: This quote from Ralph Peters[1] describes many of the celebrities who have come out against the war lately, Jimmy Carter, and a lot of the anti-war crowd to the T…

“The “peace movement” is and has been a curious affair for at least a century. It has always found its recruits in those who believe, against all evidence, that their own governments are malevolent, whether in Washington, London, Ottawa or Canberra, while even the bloodiest foreign dictator really wants peace.”

Spot-on Ralph!

Quote Of The Day

by John Hawkins | February 4, 2003 12:55 am

Quote Of The Day: Tony Blair[1] had this to say yesterday,

“When people say to me why are you risking everything in a sense, politically, on this issue I say to them in all honesty I do not want to be the Prime Minister when people point the finger back at history and say you knew perfectly well those two threats [weapons of mass destruction and terrorism] were there and you did nothing about it.”

Walking the path of Churchill is tougher than following in Neville Chamberlain’s footprints. However, Churchill is now viewed as having been a titan among men while on the other hand, Chamberlain is generally looked at as having been weak and foolish. Blair may not be taking the easy way out today, but I believe that down the road he’ll be looked at as having the courage to get on the right side of history despite stiff opposition. I haven’t always been sure of Blair’s intentions and I have to wonder if even Blair has the will to keep fighting the good fight once the war on terrorism moves beyond Iraq. However, Blair deserves credit for having the courage to do the right thing, even if it has cost him politically. Tony Blair, RWN salutes you…

***Update***: Tony Blair also sent a little thank-you[2] to France for all the support they’ve given Britain on Iraq and Zimbabwe…

“Tony Blair blocked a decision to award a French company a £3 billion contract to build the Royal Navy’s two new aircraft carriers because of anger at President Jacques Chirac’s behaviour over Iraq and Zimbabwe.

The industry journal Defence Analysis will say today that the reason for snubbing the French company was “purely political”.

Take that Axis of Weasels!

Quote Of The Day

Quote Of The Day: For those of you unfamiliar with Oriana Fallaci, she wrote a book that has been very popular in Europe called “The Rage and The Pride[1].” The book is in the words of the article[2] I’m quoting from, “a passionate cry in which she accuses the West of being blind to the true threat of Islam.”

Well, Fallaci gets death threats, presumably from Islamists who’re angry about her attacks on radical Islam. Fallaci says she lets them talk a bit and,

“Then I say, ‘Do you know where it is your mother and your wife and your sister and your daughter are right in this moment? They are in a brothel of Beirut. And do you know what they’re doing? They are giving away their’-I don’t tell it to you, but I tell it to them-‘and you know to whom? To an American. F*ck you!'”

That’s so “Coulteresque” that you just have to love it!

Quote Of The Day

Quote Of The Day: From Victor Davis Hanson’s[1] editorial on anti-Americanism that appeared on the Wall Street Journal website today,

“Earlier Romans knew what it was to be Roman, why it was at least better than the alternative, and why their culture had to be defended. Later in ignorance they forgot what they knew, in pride mocked who they were, and in consequence disappeared.”

One day, if we’re not careful, what happened to the Romans will happen to us. If so, it won’t be because of any outside power, it’ll be because we lost respect for the values & the culture that made us so successful.

Quote Of The Day: White House spokesman Ari Fleischer comments[1] on Gore dropping out of the race…

“(That is) an internal matter for the Democratic Party, and somebody will emerge from the Democratic field who will ultimately seek to raise taxes on the American people, but that’s a decision that the Democrats will make as they select a nominee.”

Way to kick ’em when they’re down Ari =D
