Republicans Are Happier Than Democrats (AND have a better sex life)
Written By : Kathleen McKinley

A recent discussion on the myths of conservatism got me to doing some research on conservatism. The answers I found didn’t surprise me, but it might some liberals.

The Pew Research Center did several surveys to determine who was happy. Not surprisingly Republicans were happier than Democrats or Independents. 45% to 30% to 29%. In addition, Republicans have been happier every year since the General Social Survey began taking its measurements in 1972. Also, People who attend religious services weekly or more are happier as well.

Drawing on extensive attitude surveys, Schweizer’s “Makers and Takers: Why Conservatives Work Harder, Feel Happier, Have Closer Families, Take Fewer Drugs, Give More Generously, Value Honesty More, Are Less Materialistic and Envious, Whine Less . . . and Even Hug Their Children More Than Liberals,” which comes out this week, says liberals are much more likely than conservatives to think about themselves first and are less willing to make sacrifices for others.

Some 71 percent of conservatives say they have an obligation to care for a seriously injured spouse or parent, compared with 46 percent for liberals. Asked if they would endure all things for the one they love, 55 percent of conservatives say yes, compared with 26 percent of liberals.

Equally revealing, liberals are far more likely to say they are depressed and to view the world bleakly. Schweizer attributes that to an attitude that they and those around them are victims and helpless unless the government intervenes.

Well, that explains a lot, doesn’t it?

Republicans have more children as well:

Of the ten states with the highest fertility in the U.S., eight of them voted for Bush in 2000. Of the bottom ten states in fertility, eight went for Gore. More importantly, of the states Bush won, his margin of victory was generally much higher in high-birth rate states than lower ones. As for Gore’s states — the lower the birth rates the higher the margin of victory.

A BYU study also shows that conservatives are more likely than liberals to read opposing points of view.

Conservatives also give much more to the poor and charity and donate more of their time than liberals. You can look at some specific well know politicians for examples here.

And last, but certainly not least, Republicans have a better sex life than Democrats.

So let’s summarize. Republicans are happier, give more to the poor, have more children, and have a better sex life.

This explains a lot of the comments I get from liberals. Unhappiness brings much bitterness.

I find it amazing that the picture of Republicans that Hollywood and the media try to portray is actually the opposite of reality.

I say to Democrats reading this, all is not lost. The wonderful thing about this country is that we are free to admit when we are wrong and turn things around. It can happen to you.

Come join the party. The HAPPY party….;-)

Well when it comes to happiness liberals have a pretty low bar to beat. They are most hate filled, bigoted, close minded group I’ve ever known.

    Wow. Nice report.

Can we see something that maybe reflects data from the last few years?

We’ve actually discussed this data on this site a year or two ago. That’s how outdated it is.

Tell all the TEAists that they are happier.

    That’s it? That’s your whole rebuttal, D-Vega?

“Man, that stuff is so last year! It’s totally outdated!”

The funny thing about this post is that my wifes cousin is in the process of getting a divorce, her profession, assistant to the dean of admissions at a local college…hence she is a flaming liberal. Her husband is pretty conservative, a regular working guy who does very well as a contractor, but their differences grew too quickly last year during the election cycle, and for the last few months she has been depressed and thoroughly miserable. Fortunately they have no kids for her to contaminate with her liberal agenda!

About the sex life, I’m not so sure. I think Democrats are far better at screwing other people.

All one has to do is take a Progressive to the beach, then watch them bitch and whine because the sand is hot, their wine is getting warm, the Sun might burn them, they stepped on a shell, the water is too hot or too cold, “women didn’t wear that little in my day,” etc and so on.

Of course, being miserable makes them happy, which makes them miserable, which makes them happy, which makes them miserable.

Yes they are….and much more willing to get screwed too.

The cause and effect is purposeful. The anti-religion, anti-family result of liberal policies and socials mores creates dissatisfaction, unhappiness, and diffuse anger.

These negative attitudes are then channeled into liberal causes, furthering the cycle.

Buying into liberal bullsh*t makes you unhappy, because humans don’t work like libs claim, and this unhappiness makes you useful to further liberal/radical efforts.

This is not so last year.

In one case, it’s so NINE years ago.

Dude, you’re so two thousand and late.

Is it worth a discussion of WHY (if this data is correct) these differences exist? Dennis Prager, a radio host I respect very much, frequently addresses this. His discussions got me thinking, and I offer you, for whatever they are worth, some thoughts:

    1. Conservatives are more likely to be regular churchgoers than liberals. This one, folks, is indisputable – study after study confirms this. So why would this contribute to happiness? Well, first, my empirical (and anecdotal, admittedly) experience is that people are happier when they feel that they are part of something “larger than themselves.” If it’s “all about you,” you are GOING to be unhappy – every narcissistic person I am personally acquainted with is deeply, fundamentally unhappy – and pResident Zero would certainly seem to fit that mold.

    2. Conservatives are more likely to get, and stay, married, and more likely to have kids, and more of them. First two elements I have seen conflicting statistics on, but most surveys I have seen tend to confirm that conservatives are more marriage-oriented. The “more kids” is pretty well documented. If you don’t understand why both of these elements contribute to greater happiness, all I can tell you is – try it. I have 4 kids, my wife and I have been married over 25 years, and we don’t plan on changing that – and it is, without a doubt, the most important part of my life – more than my job, more even (although closely tied to) my religion.

    3. Conservatives are more focused on personal responsibility. So? One, humans find more satisfaction in achieving for themselves than in being “given” things. And we are more grateful – I am grateful for my parents, who taught me the value of hard work, I am grateful to my (good) teachers, who helped train my mind, and I am grateful to the millions of men and women who built this wonderful country where (at least up ’til now) a person was free to achieve, or FAIL, based on their own ability, ambition and effort. Liberals do constantly seem to whine about what’s wrong (or what they PERCEIVE is wrong), rather than being grateful for what’s right.

    4. Liberal policies are anti-human. Abortion. Welfare and entitlements (see above – people WANT to achieve for themselves). “Global Warming” – “Gaia” is more important than people. All liberal policies are based on collectivizing humans, and we are, by nature, individuals.

Hell, the surprise isn’t that we are happier; the surprise is why ANYONE would want to be a liberal.
