Texas school district arms teachers, posts signs warning visitors
Destined to become the safest schools in America, it’s nice to see that this school district in Texas has taken common sense steps to keeping their kids safe. A Texas school district has kicked off its school year by arming its teachers – and planting warning signs outside.
After a January vote to equip its teachers with firearms, the Argyle Independent School District is warning visitors that members of its staff “are armed and may use whatever force is necessary to protect our students.”
They said the decision follows “a comprehensive evaluation of District’s safety, security and emergency response politics” after “the unfortunate and tragic situations that occurred in multiple American schools over the last several years,” according to a release. The right to bear arms on all four campuses just northwest of Dallas doesn’t apply to all teachers; but exactly which ones it does won’t be released to the public.
“I think if a tragedy does occur, lives can be saved by guns being in the right hands, and I think the teachers here might be able to stop something like that and life can be saved,” parent Lacey Fenoglio told CW33. Those packing heat are described as “school marshals.”
According to the avant garde program, which the local chief of police is overseeing, the armed staffers each have a license to carry a concealed handgun; have passed an interview, psychological exam and firearms and emergency response training course; and must also participate in an ongoing requalification process. To provide fair warning to its visitors, signs will be posted outside each Argyle campus announcing the potential presence of armed school personnel.
“I trust that the administrators of this school district will put my kid’s best interest at heart,” said Fenoglio.
I would love for this program to become a successful type for the rest of the nations schools to follow!
