The Health Care Summit and The Wound That Never Heals
Written By : Kathleen McKinley

I don’t think the summit turned out quite the way Pres. Obama thought it would, and this is the reason why.

Let me try something out on you: This health-care summit was a bad idea for the Democrats for this reason: They have long benefited from a perception — a perception greatly abetted by the media: The Republicans don’t care about health care, they don’t know about health care, they are the Party of No. All the ideas and caring are on the Democratic side.

It is not so, and it has never been so. And now everybody knows it.

Not only did Obama himself refer to the many ideas that Republicans had on health care, but it was clear that the Republicans cared deeply. They were well informed on all aspects of the bill, and voiced their concern about the costs and other provisions. It was also probably the first time that most Americans realized that all the Senators who are also Doctors, are Republican. They well defined how best to address costs and care by their own experience.

The most recent poll shows that 59% of Americans want Congress to start from scratch. Opposition has been between 46 and 59 percent, support between 31 and 41. It’s time for the Democrats to start listening to the American people. Pelosi made a big deal out of saying that too many have waited too long already. The only problem with that? Whether they pass reform tomorrow or a year from now, no one will be affected by the change until they are implemented. Which won’t be until 2014. So that is a false argument. Yet she repeated it.

Reid had the audacity to say that “no one is talking about reconcilation.” Even the mainstream media shook their head at that one. Reid has talked about it often, so that was a silly thing to say. Today’s Gallup poll says Americans oppose reconciliation 52% to 39%. That should put that idea to rest, but Democrats seem so determined that I wonder if they care at all what the American people want. It seems they only care what THEY want for the American people. We are back to that arrogance of knowing better that the Democrat leaders are famous for. More on that later.

The truth is that if Democrats hadn’t insisted on including funding of abortion at the beginning, they would probably already passed a health care bill. But members of their own party went against them on this important life issue.

But they have not learned their lesson. Because abortion is always the most important thing to them. So important, it was worth all this. If you are angry that heath care reform hasn’t passed, you can blame those in your party who insist on catering to the pro abortion lobby above all else.

Every version of the health-care bill has contained multiple pro-abortion mandates and federal subsidies for abortion, except for the version that was fixed by adoption of the Stupak-Pitts amendment. But Obama and Reid kept that provision out of the Senate bill. It had been used to get Stupak and other pro life Democrats (I love typing that..pro-life Democrats- music to my ears ) votes in the House, but then quickly dropped to satisfy abortion lobby. The final bill is the most pro-abortion piece of legislation since Roe v. Wade. It would result in direct federal funding of abortion through Community Health Centers, tax subsidies for private plans that cover abortion, and pro-abortion federal administrative mandates. When Obama said that no federal funds would be used to fund abortion, he was either flat out lying or he changed his mind. He should admit that now.

I admit that I am not objective, but it did seem to me that the Republicans seemed genuinely well-prepared, and the Democrats did not. Why does this matter when most Americans were not watching it? Because Democrats in Congress were watching. They know that this isn’t changing anyone’s mind.

Which brings us back to reconciliation. It was made clear to them that reconcilation would probably be political suicide. But according to Politico, that may not matter:

After a brief period of consultation following the White House health-reform summit, Congressional Democrats plan to begin making the case next week for a massive, Democrats-only health-care, party strategists told POLITICO.

A Democratic official said the six-hour summit was expected to “give a face to gridlock, in the form of House and Senate Republicans.”

Democrats plan to begin rhetorical, and perhaps legislative, steps toward the Democrats-only, or reconciliation, process early next week, the strategists said.

I don’t think they realize the depth of anger that would be thrown at them by the American people if they push this down our throats this way. No idea.

Finally, was this nothing more than an effort by Obama to create a “false momentum,” for the health care bill as indicated by House Republican Whip, Eric Cantor? If so, that effort failed.

Who does Eric Cantor cite as the biggest force in defeating this bill? Pro life forces.

The wound that is abortion will never heal. It will always affect our lives and divide us until we address it as a people.

Give me a break … can some please explain to me how the minority party, the one who did not, until very recently (this year) have the votes to block ANYTHING in either house of Congress is ‘the face of gridlock’?

The people in the Democrat party need to step up to the plate and admit to themselves and the American people that they are the ones who failed. Now, because they still can’t muster the votes within their own party they are attempting to make the Republican’s in the Senate the scapegoat by crying about their loss of the filibuster proof majority.

Grow a pair and give me a break.

Turns out that the “health care summit” which was supposed to make the Republicans look like a bunch of mean, angry obstructionists was in fact a free national campaign commercial that screamed “vote Republican!” to anyone with a brain. Thanks, Obama! You’ve just guaranteed yourself a Congress dominated by Republicans for the rest of your one and only term.

The “health care summitt” was set up to shake the 40 or so far left DEMS in the House of Representatives who voted against the bill into a sense of reality. They voted against the bill because it did not have the “public option.” Now that those 40 far left DEMS will be forced to come to terms with the fact that the “public option” is off the table for good, Pelosie will be able convince them to vote for the Senate version of the bill adding only changes which can stand up under the rules of being adopted in the Senate by the process of reconcilliation. Otherwise the 40 far left DEMS get nothing. Those 40 votes will more than make up for the 10 to 15 moderate and pro-life DEM votes Pelosie stands to lose on a vote for the Senate version of the Bill. The revised bill will then go back to the US Senate for final passage via reconcilliation and then on to Obama’s desk for his signature.

The highlight of the entire day for me was Obama’s petty interruption of McCain, telling him that the campaign was over. For a president that has given more than one speech a day on average, and about one interview every other day since he took office, that is laughable.

Wow you losers in the discussion are fools as well.

Health care reform is going to happen and the results will rid us of the republican party once and for all.

    Woo hoo!

  • MediumHeadBoy

Ah, how nice of Jack Off to offer some more of his “content.” Hey, Off, how come it’s ok for you to post “personal attacks” but nobody else? I guess it’s the same “logic” whereby you could become a success (as if!) on your own but nobody else can so we’d better elect Donks for everything. Asswipe.

Great post. Truth really does have a good sound to it.

I was sceptical of the “HC Summit” for the potential the Marketing Propaganda Wing of the Progressive Party (Dem owned MSM) to upstage the Republicans…But; surprise, the Republicans won with intelligence…sweet.

Abortion in America since 1973 is genocide (def: the murder of a whole group of people, especially a whole nation, race or religious group).

Truth will keep you free…lies will enslave you!
