The Obama White House Plays Their Ultimate Weapon Against Al-Qaeda: The Race Card
Written By : John Hawkins

One of the more bizarre tics of liberal thinking on foreign policy is that they believe everyone in the world is basically just like us. They believe they have roughly the same hopes, dreams, concerns and way of looking at the world. So, since they believe they think the way we do, they seem to believe they can be intimidated the same way as so many of us are — by playing the race card:

An US administration official said al-Qaeda was racist and used black Africans as “cannon fodder”.

In an interview on South African television, Mr Obama said: “What you’ve seen in some of the statements that have been made by these terrorist organisations is that they do not regard African life as valuable in and of itself.

“They see it as a potential place where you can carry out ideological battles that kill innocents, without regard to long-term consequences, for their short-term tactical gains.”

An administration official went further, saying that the Ugandan attacks show that “al-Qaeda is a racist organisation that treats black Africans like cannon fodder and does not value human life”

What’s next? Are they going to accuse them of hating the poor? Maybe they can file a nuisance lawsuit against Al-Qaeda. That’ll show ‘em! Perhaps this sounds a little nebulous and nuanced, but here’s just something pathetic about looking at irredeemably evil people who’re living lives dedicated to terrorism, murder, and oppression, and choosing, “You’re a racist” as your shot across their bow.

It’s like the Left has to come up with some reason besides the fact that Al-Qaeda killed almost 3,000 Americans on 9/11 to hate them. “Sure, they killed a lot of Americans, and that was bad — I guess. But, these guys are racists? Well, that’s going too far! Now we have a reason to fight them!”

It reminds me of an argument Jonah Goldberg made about hypocrisy,

Hypocrisy is bad, but it’s not the worst vice in the world. If I declared “murder is wrong” and then killed somebody, I would hope that the top count against me would be homicide, not hypocrisy. Liberal elites — particularly in Hollywood — believe that hypocrisy is the gravest sin in the world, which is why they advocate their own lifestyles for the entire world: Sleep with whomever you want, listen to your own instincts, be true to yourself, blah, blah, blah. Our fear of hypocrisy is forcing us to live in a world where gluttons are fine, so long as they champion gluttony.

In Al-Qaeda’s case, I’d hope the fact that they’re the terrorist organization responsible for 9/11 is the “top count” against them, not the fact that they may also be racists.

If only Al-Qaeda were more Affirmative Action friendly they wouldn't be so bad….

This seems rather odd to say.

I would ask who this official is and why weren't they named in the article.

Maybe they can file a nuisance lawsuit against Al-Qaeda. That'll show 'em!

Brilliant, John. I'm actually surprised that our intrepid AG hasn't beat you to the punch on this. He's so enamoured of the lawsuit that it has to have crossed his mind at least once.

Racism seems to be the ultimate evil in liberals' minds, given that they'll excuse almost anything else. Consider:

They consider Hitler a monster (and rightfully so), but not Stalin or Mao, even though Stalin and Mao killed more people than Hitler. The difference? Hitler killed people because of their race, whereas Stalin and Mao killed them for political reasons.

Or to take a more recent (and less extreme) example, the Left is currently demonizing Mel Gibson for making racist over the phone comments to his ex, and calling for his career to end (and rightfully so). But Roman Polanski drugs and rapes a 13-year-old, and Charlie Sheen forces his wife down and holds a knife to her throat, and both get a pass. Seems like their behavior was even worse than Gibson's, but since they didn't throw racism into the mix, liberals are fine with it.

Had Bush said this he would have been pilloried as an idiot feebly attempt to garner support for his bloodthirsty war of aggression.

I'm curious to see how the MSM will spin this: either supporting the president or pretending this never happened. So many choices!

  • Christopher_Taylor

All that's true but this is actually kind of clever. If they can drive a wedge between the Ismaeli Muslims and al`Qaeda, that can only help us.

Racism seems to be the ultimate evil in liberals' minds, given that they'll excuse almost anything else. Consider:

Yes, many of these clowns just cynically use the emotional over-reaction that many people have toward accusations of “racism” to slander their political opponents (what I call the “Scarlet R gambit”) but some do actually seem to have to this almost morbid fixation on *cue scary music* eeeevvviiillll raaaaccciiiiists.
For example some years ago some troll was accusing me of being a “racist”. One of my stock replies to nonsense to such as that is to scoff at the acuser and state “well, there are much worse things to be accused of”. The idiot in question actually came back and said “like what?”. This is a great example of this fixation that borders on a mental illness with these people.

Personally I think the word “racism” should be removed from political discussion all together. The word “racism” as used today was first coined by Leon Trotsky in either 1930 or '33 depending on which source you read and was used by him in the same manner in which most leftists use it today. That is to say he used it to slander, shame, and silence his political opponents. For that reason alone it should be declared to be an illigitimate term to use in the context of political discussion.

It's a legitimate comment. Islam swept into Africa and the vast majority of Muslims are African but Arabs hate them. It's odd to see the criticism over here, considering when it comes time to critique Hamas, you cite not only their rocket attacks and torture, but also their abominable treatment of their own women. It's a valuable tactic for anyone ignorant enough to think 'Well there's two sides to this story'. It's not the race card because they're not saying 'Al-Qaeda is racist' or broadcasting a Gibson-esque tape of Zawahiri talking about Latinos. They're clarifying that these people regard Africans as sub-human

  • http://conservativebootcamp.com Martin Hale

That argument makes sense only if it is Arabic al-Qaeda operatives committing the terror atrocities against Africans. But the majority of the terror is being fomented by African-based al-Qaeda offshoots, mostly out of Somalia, meaning that much of it is African-on-African criminality.

Based on that understanding, it looks like the same old story – radical Islamists practising their standard-issue religious pogroms against people, institutions and cultural icons which don't bow to Islam. Which makes the only discrimination happening religious in nature, not racial. Which is the underlying problem here. Radical Islamists see anyone and any institution which does not adhere to their perception of true Islam as sub-human.

The situation in Africa is analogous to that in Indonesia, where radical Islamists are continually committing terror attacks on Indonesians. And the situation in India where radical Islamists are committing terror attacks on other Indians.

They consider Hitler a monster (and rightfully so), but not Stalin or Mao, even though Stalin and Mao killed more people than Hitler. The difference? Hitler killed people because of their race, whereas Stalin and Mao killed them for political reasons.

Fun Fact: Josef Stalin was actually quite an antisemite himself. But left-wingers don't like to talk about that because he's technically an ideological ally.

  • abcxyz

Any guess as to when Jesse Jackson will stage a sit-in in front of a known Al Qaeda location as a way to show his objection to their racism?

  • gfchicago

I doubt that he will do that because they won't pay any extortion money to him.

  • UFKA_Smithwick

The problem is primarily that the only time the administration manages to say something bad about al qaeda is when they're killing blacks.

Killing white folks, meh. Killing white americans, knock yourself out.

But black africans? That crosses a line!

  • Efffrem

You are aware, right, that it really is okay to “play the Race Card” when it really IS racism?
Fact: Arab Muslim slave-trading of black African slaves has resulted in the murder of 120 million people.
Fact: The Arabic word for “black” and “slave” are the exact same word.
Fact: English-speaking Saudi Wahhabists, when referring to their Ethiopian slaves (who scrounge for cardboard to sleep under because their “masters” do not pay enough), call them “niggers.”
Arabs generally, and Arab Muslims more specifically, are the most racist, intolerant people on earth.
Because the Regressives are continually playing the Race Card (The Boy Who Cried Wolf) does not mean that it is not valid here.

  • logdon

Arabs use Sri Lankan Muslim women as housemaids. Around forty per month are returned in body bags.

They regard them as complete chattels, sub human and treat them accordingly.

And those women are fellow Muslims!
