“The pentagon uses, on average, about 666 rolls of toilet paper every day.”

I sure hope I’m not starting some new Apocalyptic conspiracy theory by mentioning that, though.

Why am I mentioning it, you ask? Hell if I know. Just some silly factoid I ran across after I saw this story:

Presidential Campaigns Cost $2 Billion

Two billion! Oh, my God!

That story, by the way, details some of the big money going to Republicans and Mitt Romney, but says nothing about money spent on Obama and the Democrats. Go figure.

Anyway. I remember reading, in election years past, that Americans spend more on toilet paper annually than on the presidential election. I became curious, and found:

Twenty-six billion rolls of toilet paper, worth about US$2.4 billion, are sold yearly in America alone.

Two-point-four billion. That’s more, America. We spend more money wiping our butts than we do choosing the Leader of the Free World!

But that’s Wikipedia, which I don’t completely trust, and also a couple of years old. My usual amount (5 minutes or so) of internet research was, unfortunately, not enough to answer the question “how much do Americans spend annually on toilet paper” to any degree of certitude (although I did find this interesting data at the Census Bureau’s website), but: if we spent $2 billion on the presidential elections, that comes to about $6.50 per person in the U.S.

$6.50 is almost enough to buy a 12-pack of Charmin Sensitive, and more than enough to buy a 12-pack of Angel Soft Double Rolls at your local Wal-Mart.

So the question is: do you use more than a 12-pack of toilet paper in a given year? If so, you spent more on toilet paper than on the election. If not, then you use less than one roll per month, and should really see a doctor.

Fiber, man! Eat some fiber!

But back to this post’s title. During my extensive research, I also found:

The Toilet Paper Encyclopedia

Proving that yes, no matter what the subject, somebody somewhere is writing about it on the web.

How was toilet paper used in the Desert Storm War?
The military used toilet paper to camouflage their tanks in Saudi Arabia, during the Desert Storm War.

Really? Weird. Were they supposed to look like turbans?
