The Politics Of Race…Again

It would have been amusing if it hadn’t been so sad. This morning I was listening to a phone interview a: Fox News reporter was having with Al: Sharpton: about the recent controversy over a new book that relates how senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s remarked during the 2008 campaign that Obama benefited from being”light skinned” and having no “Negro dialect” unless “he wanted to have one.”

Reid is apologizing like a mad man, and race baiters like Al Sharpton are showing their usual double standards. We all know that if a Republican had said it, Sharpton would have been calling for his head. But there was something in particular that I wanted to point out in this discussion with Al Sharpton. Sharpton was defending Reid saying the words showed more about America than Reid. Reid was just pointing out what America looks at when they see Obama.

The reporter then: asked him about the double standard. He reminded Sharpton of his behavior when Sen. Trent Lott (R-MS) remarked at: Strom Thurmond’s 100 birthday party in 2002::

“I want to say this about my state: When Strom Thurmond ran for president, we voted for him. We’re proud of it. And if the rest of the country had followed our lead, we wouldn’t’t have had all these problems over all these years.”

The history of this was that Thurmond was a staunch segregationist. In 1948, he ran for president as a segregationist candidate for the Dixiecrat Party.

The left, the media, and certainly Sharpton: fell over themselves excoriating Lott, and it eventually led to his: resigning. As LaShawn Barbar points out in this excellent overview of the controversy:…: he was castigated as a racist. Presidential election loser Al Gore said his remarks were “fundamentally racist.” CBC member Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.) said, “It sends a chilling message to all people. Those are the kinds of words that tear this nation apart.”

CBC member “Hurricane” Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Tx) said, “It was a shocking, piercing voice through the fabric of black America.”

On Fox News, Sharpton almost garbles in his indignity to the reporter. He said, “Are you trying to compare the two? Are saying that what Reid said: is the same as saying that: our country should have been led by a racist????!”

No, Mr. Sharpton. That might not be the same. Even though I don’t think that was what Lott was saying, but be that as it may, there is a situation that IS THE SAME, but unfortunately the reporter: hadn’t researched this enough. Because I would have LOVED to have: heard Sharpton defend this one.:

As: LaShawn reminds us:

On the Senate floor in 2004 regarding Sen. Robert Byrd, : : “Sen. Chris Dodd (D-Conn) said, “I do not think it is an exaggeration at all to say to my friend from West Virginia that he would have been a great senator at any moment. Some were right for the time. Robert C. Byrd, in my view, would have been right at any time. He would have been right at the founding of this country. He would have been in the leadership crafting this Constitution. He would have been right during the great conflict of Civil War in this nation.” [emphasis mine]

History: Byrd joined the Ku Klux Klan in the 1940s. Does “right at any time” include his KKK tour of duty? In 2001, he twice used the phrase “white n*gger” on TV, as in “I’ve seen a lot of white niggers in my time.” Not a peep was heard from the CBC.”

Yes, I would say that is the EXACT same comparison, but: no indignation from Sharpton over that one.:
What a hypocrite.: But he wasn’t alone. Gore had nothing to say, neither did Sheila Jackson Lee, or Rep. Cummings: : or any of the mainstream media.: Democrats or the MSM just can’t seem to garner the same indignation against racial insensitivity if:  it’s a Democrat being insensitive. What that says to me is that it’s really about political party, and not about whether they really care about racially offensive statements.

If you have read me for long, you know I write a lot about race relations. Being a child of integration from the south in the ’60’s, it is close to my: heart. One of the things that angers me most is the Democrat’s distortion of history.: It was their party that fought against ending slavery. It was their party that stood in the schoolroom doors refusing to let black students pass. But their party likes to pretend otherwise. Race baiters like Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson figured out decades ago that there was money to be made in the Democrat party. And convincing blacks that it was the Democrats that had their best interest at heart and that Republicans were the racist ones, was the sole endeavor of these two for 30 years.: And it worked.:

You might notice a certain change in appearance of Al Sharpton over the years. No, let me correct that. You might noticed a DRAMATIC change in appearance. You see, at first Sharpton made his money off being some sort of cultural hero to the inner city black community. But soon he figured out that if he stopped dressing like The Mack and more like a businessman, he could make even more money off liberal white guilt.:

Which is why you never see him go after a Democrat like Reid for doing exactly what some Republican did. He: isn’t about to say anything against the Democratic party. Their his bank.: Why the media continues to give him a platform, I have no idea.:

Sharpton aside, the moral of this story is something I’ve been saying for a long time. If you don’t think there are as many racists in the Democrat party as there are in the Republican party or just in general, then I have a bridge to sell you in: Brooklyn.:

It’s past time for people of all colors to simply look at the policies of each party in a honest way, and understand that the policies of the Democrats have decimated their communities. And I will say this with my dying breath. Al Sharpton may be able to sleep at night selling off his community on lies and: hypocrisy, but I would never be able to if I didn’t speak the truth.:

Republicans aren’t perfect. We have made a lot of mistakes with the black community (and now with the Hispanic community I might add), but at the heart of our party is a party that simply: encourages people to not: be: “judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.” We want you to succeed on that, because the color of your skin just doesn’t matter. Our hearts are all the same color. We all love and breath the same. Politics should never based on the melanin: of your skin.

No matter what Reid says.
