Three Year Old Toddler Neglected So Badly In House Of Feces That She Was ‘Unable To Walk’
Ah, the charms of the British welfare state! A 3-year-old girl was found so badly neglected in a house full of feces that she was unable to walk. Teachers and social workers were apparently aware of the family for a long time, but no one stepped in.
The girl – known as ‘Abigail’ and four others were left malnourished, infested with head lice and living in squalor, an inquiry has found. In total nine children lived in the Gloucestershire home. Their appalling conditions were allowed to continue because their parents played the authorities off one another, according to Gloucestershire Safeguarding Children Board.
….Over the years there were numerous notes made about the condition of the house – with it being dirty, untidy and smelling of faeces.
…Despite being nearly 3 years old Abigail was unable to walk and was having a number of other problems caused by physical, emotional and developmental neglect. These included severe nappy rash, anaemia, malnutrition, head lice infestation and decreased bone mineralisation (i.e. weak bones)…There were five “missed opportunities” by the authorities to step in earlier because neglect was not treated as seriously as other forms of abuse, the serious case review found.
The most appalling part of this hideous story is how the authorities shirked responsibility. Who cares if the parents “played authorities off one another”? They were aware of this couple, and they should have been thrown in jail years ago. Here’s to hoping the kids–all nine of them–are sent to loving homes where they’ll never encounter these beasts again.
