Welcome to the Horrors of Rationing

Few things frighten a woman more than hearing a doctor say, You have breast cancer. As a nurse, I’ve seen women fight their very personal struggle, enduring pain and fighting as life slips away – so my blood boiled when I read the Wall Street Journal story about the cruelty for women with breast cancer hidden in Obamacare. The message from Obama is simple for women with breast cancer::  welcome to the horrors of rationing.
A panel of Obama’s Food and Drug Administration is reportedly withdrawing approval of Avastin, a drug for treating metastatic breast cancer. Avastin is already used in brain, kidney, lung and colon cancer. The drug prevents the blood flow tumors need to grow and has been shown to significantly improve the quality of life in some patients with metastatic breast cancer. So why would Obama’s FDA want to deny breast cancer patients this drug? Because it doesn’t fit with Obamacare. As one of the Obama bureaucrats explained the decision to deny doctors approval for Avastin, prolonging life isn’t worth the cost. “We aren’t suppose to talk about cost,:  but that’s another issue”, the Wall Street Journal quoted her as saying.

That makes it pretty clear, doesn’t it? Obamacare isn’t about helping patients. It’s about rationing. While the majority of Americans want a President who will get Washington out of the way of economic growth so a thriving economy can generate the wealth needed to afford quality health care, we have a President who is stifling the economy, killing jobs and destroying the quality of our healthcare.

Maybe the fact Obamacare is going to deny care to breast cancer patients will come as a shock to some people who heard him talk so movingly about his own grandmother’s battle with cancer. But the health care rationing behind Obamacare has been plain to see from the beginning — for any one willing to look.

Doing something about this tragedy starts with defeating Obama’s ‘Yes Men’ in Congress — like our own Bob Etheridge who told seniors he would never vote to cut Medicare, then one week later voted for Obamacare which cut Medicare half a trillion dollars.

I want a government that sends a better message to breast cancer patients than ‘Welcome to the Horrors of Rationing.’
