Which of his children does he wish he hadn’t had?

Actor Jeremy Irons says there’s just too many damned humans around here:

“One always returns to the fact that there are just too many of us, the population continues to rise and it’s unsustainable,” he said in an interview with The Sunday Times. “I think we have to find ways where we’re not having to scrap our effluent junk and are a really sustainable planet.”

He’s got two grown children, so it’s not like he’s contributing to population growth (although who knows how many children his children will have). Still, he’s not contributing to population shrinkage, either.

All we can do, I suppose, is hope for lots and lots of war. All these damned people aren’t going to off themselves, after all.

One more thing. I loved this part:

The increasing global population would put an intolerable strain on the world’s resources, Irons said, and the gulf between developing countries and westerners living a bountiful “pie-in-the-sky” existence must be addressed.

Is he suggesting the abolition of tariffs and union protectionism in the West? Sure sounds like it. Sounds like he favors re-colonization of the old colonies, too, and the institution of Western ideas about private property and rule of law.
