Woman Who Arranged For Colleague to Be Raped Jailed For 6 Years
A British woman named Joanne Berry will spend six years in prison for encouraging men in sex chat rooms to burst into an ex-colleague’s home and rape her.
Joanne Berry, 30, devised and executed the bizarre plot in a revenge attack on the victim who had angered her for an apparently frivolous reason. Maidstone Crown Court heard how Berry posed on websites such as ‘Cougar Shag’ declaring she liked role play and wanted to create ‘some sort of rape scenario’.
Jailing Berry, Judge David Griffith-Jones QC told her: “Joanne Berry I now have to place sentence on you in respect of four counts all of which you were found guilty after a trial. You underwent these offences in a wicked and calculated albeit frankly bizarre fashion. Your victim happened to be a work colleague. It is to be noted that the word ‘bizarre’ features regularly in my sentencing. It is highly unlikely that the counsel had anything like this in mind when they wrote the guidelines.”
Fortunately, the victim wasn’t actually raped. But this case shows that courts are starting to take this type of Internet harassment seriously. Here’s to hoping revenge porn victims start seeing some justice, too.
