The painting was produced by a high school student for a local competition and it depicts Lady Liberty wearing drag queen makeup and an Islamic hijab. The drag queen makeup is worrisome enough, but with all the nuts on YouTube encouraging middle schoolers to apply overdrawn, pouty lips and eye makeup more suited to circus clowns before heading to class, it’s not unexpected.
What is crazy here is the hijab.
Never forget: Islam means submission.
And now this submissive, hijab-wearing Lady Liberty is in the care of Congressman Lou Correa. Correa is a California representative from the same area as Kamala Harris and Dianne Feinstein, and the painting can be seen in the reception room in his Santa Ana office.
So, in response to this, the group We The People Rising have videotaped their confrontation. The group members are wearing pro-Trump t-shirts and the video starts out spicy, with one group member refusing to shake Correa’s hand because he’s unAmerican.
The Orange County Register said:
Correa sees nothing objectionable in the painting, which comes at a time of controversy over Donald Trump’s efforts to ban the entry to the U.S. of people from Muslim countries and about the treatment of Muslims in this country.
He went on to say that it’s important to not remove the painting even after receiving complaints, because it was the result of an art competition for high schoolers and to take the painting down would “signal that this is not welcome and that would send the wrong message.”
Yes, that’s right, when citizens are complaining that the Statue of Liberty is shown wearing a garment associated with the 9/11 terrorist attacks, a garment that is used to dehumanize women, a garment from a religion specifically named after being submissive, in a Christian nation, those citizens are wrong?
