VIDEO: Trey Gowdy Asks DHS A Question That Blows Obama’s No-Fly List Idea Out Of The Water

Obama proposed using the no-fly list as a guide for who should not be allowed to acquire firearms. Unfortunately for him, Trey Gowdy didn’t much like that idea.

From BizPac Review:

South Carolina Congressman Trey Gowdy highlighted a major flaw in existing law that all but destroyed the impetus behind President Obama’s latest push for more gun control — people on a secret government no-fly list.

A flaw that centers on people who overstay their visas.

At a Thursday hearing on foreign travelers and national security, Gowdy noted that current law prevents three groups of people from buying or possessing firearms: illegal immigrants, people who overstay their visas and people who are here on a valid visa — in most cases, according to CNS News.

The Republican lawmaker asked Leon Rodriguez, director of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, and John Bersin, assistant secretary of Homeland Security, if government is sending its list of those who overstay their visas to federally licensed firearms dealers.

“Are those lists made available to federally licensed firearms dealers so they can make sure they don’t sell firearms to those three categories of prohibited people?” Gowdy asked.

Bersin relied he did not believe that DHS “circulates those lists.”

Gowdy, a former prosecutor, wasn’t happy with the response given Obama’s zest for pursuing new gun laws in response to tragedies, to include homegrown terrorist attacks by Islamic jihadists.

“Well, this is the frustration that I face, is that I listen to an administration call for additional gun laws,” he said. “They want additional gun control in the wake of almost every tragedy. That’s the very first place they run. And it just forces me to ask, well, I wonder how we’re doing with the current gun laws that we have?”

Trey Gowdy: bringing common sense to a Congress that clearly lacks it.
