From The Daily Mail:

A Virginia high school has apologized for showing a ‘racially divisive’ video explaining the concepts of structural racism and privilege.

The animated film, called The Unequal Opportunity Race, was shown at Glen Allen High School to spark discussions during Black History Month, but parents were outraged and called it a ‘white guilt video’.

The four-minute film, created by the African American Policy Forum for elementary and secondary school students, depicted white and black athletes in an actual race.

While white runners breeze through unimpeded, the black runners were shown being held back by roadblocks like genocide, discrimination and slavery.

Don Blake, the grandfather of a student, said: ‘They are sitting there watching a video that is dividing them up from a racial standpoint. It’s a white guilt kind of video.’

Kenny Manning, a student at Glen Allen High, told 8NEWS: ‘A lot of people thought it was offensive to white people and made them feel bad about being privileged.

‘Others thought that it was good to get the information out there. There is oppression going on in the world, and it that needs to be looked at with a magnifying glass, I guess.’

A statement released by the Henrico County Public School district said the video would no longer be used.

It also trsf: ‘We are making every effort to respond to our community. It is our goal to prevent the recurrence of this type of event.

‘In addition, steps are being taken to prevent the use of racially divisive materials in the future. We do apologize to those who were offended and for the unintended impact on our community.’

Superintendent Pat Kinlaw said the video was not the best way to deliver a lesson about race, while Reverend Tyrone Nelson, Chair of Henrico County Board of Supervisors, didn’t see why an apology was issued.

He told WTVR: ‘I see some generalizations there, but I do see some truths. As an African-American, I know that slavery was real; Jim Crow was real.’

Other parents took to social media to defend the video, saying young people needed to be educated about race, not sheltered from reality.

One parent and Henrico County Schools graduate told WTVR that if America’s racial history is presented accurately, ‘the truth is that some white people will feel guilty; as some black people will
