The videos released by The Center For Medical Progress over the last year have rocked Planned Parenthood to its core. The undercover investigation exposed the disgusting practice of selling the body parts of babies that Planned Parenthood’s abortionists brutally kill in their mother’s womb. It prompted multiple congressional investigations, state investigations across the country, as well as the abortion chain being stripped of its funding by multiple state governments. Now, the House Energy & Commerce Committee’s Select Investigative Panel for Infant Lives is officially recommending criminal prosecution.
Thursday, the panel announced that they had referred the case to Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, along with eight other organizations also implicated in the baby parts scandal. The panel began by studying The Center For Medical Progress’ videos, with Planned Parenthood of the Gulf Coast in Texas featured in the fifth video released. The video, along with legal documents taken using the Texas Public Information Act, shows how Planned Parenthood used accounting tricks to not only hide their illegal sales of baby body parts, but also the fact that they were modifying abortion techniques to better access the baby’s organs.
David Daleiden and Sandra Merritt, the undercover investigators for The Center For Medical Progress, visited Planned Parenthood of the Gulf Coast in April of 2015. They met with Director of Research Melissa Farrell, who explained how they deceptively invoiced the sales. “We had two levels of invoicing for them. We had it worded as ‘per consent,’” Farrell said. “Per consent” was their code for “per specimen” for fetal tissue. But not everything could be used. “There’s probably some situations where somebody would consent and then just not, we didn’t get a sample, or she changed her mind, or something happened to the specimen,” Farrell explained. Daleiden countered, saying, “Now obviously, we don’t want to end up paying for material that we can’t use,” and suggested a line item for “something else that represents the specimens.” Farrell agreed, saying, “Obviously. Yep. Yeah.”
“I just don’t want it to turn into a situation that is not financially beneficial for you,” Merritt said. “Yeah, yeah. And we’ll, I’ll take you up on that. I’ll take you up on that. I’ll take you up on that,” Farrell said, laughing, before adding, “We definitely want to do that, because that’s what staff and management need to see.”
Previously, Texas District Attorney Devon Anderson — who sits on the board of a Planned Parenthood affiliate — declined to charge Planned Parenthood, instead indicting Daleiden and Merritt for purchasing baby body parts. The charges against Daleiden and Merritt ended up being thrown out and ultimately, Anderson ended up losing her job, thanks to the voters of Texas.
The panel is still investigating Planned Parenthood. Chairman Marsha Blackburn issued the following statement authorizing funding that will allow the panel to complete their investigation into Planned Parenthood, along with other fetal collection agencies.
“Our Panel was tasked with investigating areas that, prior to the revelations of undercover journalists, received too little attention. For most of us, it is nothing short of an outrage that Planned Parenthood and other abortion clinics supplement their budgets by selling human fetal tissue from aborted babies. The House charged members of this Panel with investigating fetal tissue trafficking, second- and third-trimester abortion practices, the standard of care for infants who survive abortions, and the role played by our taxpayer dollars in this sector of society. Over the last year, we have held hearings that explored the bioethics surrounding fetal tissue use and that revealed the sobering reality of how some bad actors seek to profit from the sale of fetal tissue in violation of federal law.
“The work of our Panel is specifically focused on protecting the integrity of research, scientific advancements, and voluntary organ donation in America. Evidence we have uncovered reveals that the unethical and potentially unlawful practices of some bad actors may be putting important research at risk. Considering all that our Panel has identified, despite having barely a year to conduct this investigation, it is now up to us to build on this work, to hold our government accountable, and to stop these affronts to human dignity.”
Planned Parenthood needs to be held accountable for their crimes. And while some celebrities have lined up to support Planned Parenthood, Nick Cannon is calling them out, blasting them for what he calls “modern day eugenics.” “It’s population control,” he said. He’s exactly right — that was Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger’s goal, after all — and it’s about time they are stopped. This kind of criminal behavior cannot be allowed to continue.
