When an NFL team wins the Super Bowl, they are usually honored with a visit to the White House. But Matt Birk, who played for the champion Baltimore Ravens, snubbed Obama — and instead, he’ll be speaking at the 2016 March for Life.

Matt Birk, a 15-year NFL veteran, will be one of the speakers at the 2016 March for Life in Washington, D.C.

In 2013 Birk, who played center for the Super Bowl champion Baltimore Ravens, refused an invitation to visit the White House with his team over the issue of abortion.

“I wasn’t there,” Birk said at the time. “I would say this, I would say that I have great respect for the office of the presidency, but about five or six weeks ago, our president made a comment in a speech and he said, ‘God bless Planned Parenthood.'”

“Planned Parenthood performs about 330,000 abortions a year. I am Catholic, I am active in the pro-life movement and I just felt like I couldn’t deal with that. I couldn’t endorse that in any way.”

It’s refreshing to see a celebrity unwilling to abandon their principles for a change. This is the kind of person that is a true role model to be looked up to and admired.
