The aftermath of: the: Obama oil spill or alternately, Obamatrina, has been fascinating to watch. For the first time in recorded memory, we actually have liberals, including Barack Obama, proclaiming that there are limits to what government can accomplish.
Can the government create jobs by spending billions we don’t have? Can: it : run the auto industry? Can: it : control banking? Can: it : manage student loans? Can: it: : do a better job than private industry of handling health care? Barack Obama and the rest of the Left say, “yes, yes, yes!”
But, what is Barack Obama now saying about the oil spill he took complete responsibility for not so long ago?
Even though I’m president of the United States, my power is not limitless. So I can’t dive down there and plug the hole. I can’t suck it up with a straw.
Gee, you wouldn’t have known Obama’s power wasn’t limitless from the way he campaigned or the way he’s governed up until now. However, this oil spill is different from the legion of other disasters Obama has been involved with in that the results are immediate. Success is to “plug the d*mn hole” right now. Failure is when the oil keeps leaking out. The other programs won’t work any better than stopping the leak has, but the results can be more easily spun away or kicked down the road.
But, here’s the truth the Left doesn’t want to acknowledge: The way the government has handled this oil spill is just par for the course. The stimulus? A failure. Securing the border? A failure. Cash for clunkers? It was a failure. Obamacare? It’s a failure so big that it makes this oil spill look like a spoonful of water in a swimming pool.
If only Obama understood the limits of government’s power when he got into office. Heck, if only he REALLY understood it now.
