Who’s Up For Another Round Of Obama Talks Regarding Energy Prices?

Jazz Shaw terms this “Obama prepares to fight gas prices with new bumper sticker[1]“. I’m not so sure, because our feckless president doesn’t seem to be taking even that much action

(Daily Herald[2])President Barack Obama will try to head off the political impact of rising gasoline prices as Republicans vow to make the price at the pump an issue in the 2012 election campaign.

Obama this week plans events focusing on his administration’s efforts to expand domestic exploration and development of alternative energy sources to combat cyclical spikes in gas prices.

Obama’s political team has been preparing to counter Republican attacks since the administration denied a permit for TransCanada Corp.’s Keystone XL oil pipeline, White House officials said. The renewed focus on what Obama has described as an “all-of-the-above” energy strategy kicks off with a speech tomorrow at the University of Miami.

And therein lies Obama’s problem….OK, one of his numerous problems….he loves talking about stuff, but, he never really does anything about it, at least not in a manner that Makes Things Better. And now he’s going to talk about energy some more, which will, based on his history with causing the stock market to go down when he speaks, cause the price of a barrel of oil to spike.

Let’s be honest for a minute, Obama is not fully responsible for the rising price of gas and energy: there are other factors at play, many of which are decades in the making, such as turning food into marginally useful fuel. That said, Bush had 100% of the blame[3] placed solely on him by Democrats, including ones like Pelosi, Hillary Clinton, and Obama. Obama even had a campaign commercial about high gas prices which Blamed Bush, via the Lonely Conservative[4].

Yet, when prices started spiking, President Bush didn’t run out and give a speech: he made things happen. He opened up domestic drilling. He spoke with overseas producers to expand supply. He didn’t simply yammer on about how pie in the sky initiatives would help us out decades in the future. Nor did Bush attempt to make things worse

Speaking of pie in the sky, via Junk Science[5], we learn

(Washington Examiner[6]) A123 Systems, an electric car battery company once touted as a stimulus “success story” by former Gov. Jennifer Granhom, D-Mich., has laid off 125 employees since receiving $390 million in government subsidies – but is still handing out big pay raises to company executives.

The energy of the future sure seems to be working out well, eh?
