Las Vegas, Nevada — The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF)’s 37th annual SHOT Show convention is currently underway. This is the largest gathering of outdoor industry professionals, buyers, sellers, and enthusiasts in the United States.
NRA News commentator and Top Shot winner Chris Cheng was gracious enough to sit down with Counter Cultured for an interview. He discussed his new book, Shoot to Win, and why more young people should become involved in the shooting sports industry.
Cheng’s book is geared towards beginner marksmen, particularly those who are interested in learning how to shoot pistols, rifles, or shotguns.
With respect to how he got started in shooting sports, Cheng said, “I come from a self-taught, amateur background…I trained hard, and I eventually was able to win “Top Shot” on the History Channel.” He added, “I want to help people get involved in shooting.”
Cheng also added, “The younger generation is a big part of the future of shooting sports.”
He then proceeded to say that everyone, including young people, should learn how to properly handle and use firearms.
“I would really like to emphasize that shooting is something for anyone of any age.” He also added, “Yes, you can learn how to shoot at a young age, learn about safety and personal responsibility, and a lot of other good values and morals that come along with the safe handling of firearms.”
When asked how young people can familiarize themselves with the shooting sports industry, Cheng offered the following: “The shooting community is full of wonderful people…If you’re hesitant about shooting, come shoot and learn why people are so passionate and excited about the shooting sports.”
Over 60,000 people are expected to attend SHOT Show this year.
