More Businesses to Flee this Bankrupt State… And Here’s Why

Well, at least California is consistent.[1] They are already bankrupt and are just charging forward to finish themselves off. Legislators and unions have now reached an agreement there to raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour. This will virtually guarantee a mass exodus of business from the state, depleting their already empty coffers. This is the largest statewide minimum wage move in the nation by a large margin. As employees cheer, they might want to rethink their short-lived celebrations. Instead of having a low-paying job, many, many, many of them will now have no job at all. That’s logic from the land of fruits and nuts for you. They will jump from $10 to $15 an hour with a stroke of a pen.

Min Wage[2]

From the Daily Mail:

California legislators and labor unions on Saturday reached a tentative agreement that will take the state’s minimum wage from $10 to $15 an hour, a state senator said, a move that would make for the largest statewide minimum in the nation by far.

Senator Mark Leno, D-San Francisco, who stressed that the deal was not yet finalized, told The Associated Press the proposal would go before the Legislature as part of his minimum-wage bill that stalled last year.

Leno said the deal would avoid taking the issue to the ballot. One union-backed initiative has already qualified for the ballot, and a second, competing measure is also trying to qualify.

Most employers can’t afford this move. In fact, the overwhelming majority of them can’t. I hate to break it these commie Progressives, but you can’t get blood out of a turnip. There is only so much a businesses can spend before they are forced to close their doors and relocate where they can make enough money to stay viable. The deal is not specific, but they say they plan to raise the minimum wage $1 a year until they reach the $15 goal. This hasn’t been finalized yet, but knowing California and their fiscally loony moves over time, they’ll probably pass it. The Los Angeles Times, which first reported the deal, said the wage would rise to $10.50 in 2017, to $11 an hour in 2018, and one dollar per year to take it to $15 by 2022. Businesses with fewer than 25 employees would have an extra year to comply. How thoughtful of them. If I were a small business in California I would start prepping to get the hell out of there if they haven’t done so already. California already had one of the highest minimum wages in the nation. That didn’t help them with the cost of everything else soaring and their inundation by illegal immigrants and Islamic refugees. Transgender issues seem to be their primary focus. Only Washington, DC, at $10.50 per hour is higher. And Oregon officials approved a law earlier this month that will increase that state’s minimum wage to nearly $15 in urban areas over the next six years. Businesses and Democratic Gov. Jerry Brown have said such a steep wage increase would be incredibly costly. That’s an understatement. It’s the death knell of The Golden State.
