Muhammad Ali has a complex legacy. He was more than a terrific athlete; he was a complex public figure. As we remember Ali, it’s important to remember both the good and the bad. One such act of goodness, however, is often forgotten. In 1981, as a man threatened to jump to his death, Ali approached him and was able to talk him down.

Ali was not all good and was not all bad. He was human. His athletic skill and desire for greatness was inspiring. His unwillingness to serve his country, to some, was inspiring. To many, disgraceful.

In any respect, Ali is a complex figure.
