China Erects GIANT Trump Statue For Chinese New Year

While I’m usually hesitant when it comes to countries erecting statues of leaders, and more specifically erecting statues of American Presidents, this is just… very China.

In fact, I would go as far as to say that this is downright adorable, which is really something that I never thought I would say about any depiction of Trump.

An inflatable statue in a Taiyuan shopping mall depicts a white dog that seemingly has Donald Trump’s unique hair style, and it’s got the Internet in stitches.

2018 is the “Year of the Dog” and in accordance with that, one Chinese mall has set up an inflatable dog. However, many Internet dwellers quickly noticed that the dog looks suspiciously like the President of the United States.

A statue resembling US President #DonaldTrump[2] and his iconic hairdo has been spotted in a shopping mall in Taiyuan. It resembles the large, inflatable Trump-chicken seen earlier this year. 2017 was the year of the chicken. 2018 will usher in the year of dog, starting in February. pic.twitter.com/9PTgEtg10w[3]

This is reminiscent of the “Trump Chicken” that we saw in 2017, the “Year of the Rooster.”

Why China really wants to erect inflatable statues that look like the “Year of the [insert animal]” and also our President, I don’t know. However, it’s kinda cute, don’t you think? The dog and the rooster, I mean.

This is an interesting change because Trump hasn’t exactly been China’s best friend since he was elected. He blasted them for manipulating their currency and also had a few not-nice things to say about their trading practices.

Despite this, Chinese President Xi Jinping did allow the Trump’s to dine in the Forbidden City, which has never happened in the 68 years since the founding of the People’s Republic of China. This is a very high honor and one that Trump fans can certainly brag about.

I don’t recall anything like this happening under Obama, so it makes me wonder whether China simply likes Trump more (again, despite his negative comments in the past) or if Trump has made some sort of undercover deal with them that has yet to be announced, but they are honoring him publicly in their own country. Either way, this is certainly a change of pace from the last 8 years, though 2019 (the Year of the Pig) is going to be interesting.

It could be that I’m kind of jealous because I want to be depicted as an inflatable animal honored by the Chinese zodiac. Seriously, can you imagine how cool that would be?

What other honors with 2018 bring the American President? He hasn’t been making any friends in the United Nations, so we shouldn’t look there for any answers, but will China continue their friendship? I guess we’re just going to have to wait and see.
