Priest: Nativity Scene Could Be Offensive to Muslims

A Catholic priest[1] in Italy is foregoing the Nativity scene on Christmas because it might offend Muslims and atheists. Usually it is set up in the local cemetery in Cremona, but not this year. Muslim graves are in a corner of the graveyard and might be in sight of the scene, therefore causing offense. You’re kidding right? You are going to renounce tradition on one of the holiest days of the year for Christians because you don’t want to offend Muslims and those who have no faith? Are you sure you are a Christian? Because it sounds like you are kneeling before other Gods.

The priest before this one was incensed over this politically correct move. He couldn’t believe what the priest was stating. He says it shows weakness… you don’t renounce your religion to placate others. My favorite line is this one: “I am, for the time being at least, in Italy, not Saudi Arabia.” Exactly right, except everywhere is beginning to feel more and more like Mecca these days.

A priest in Italy has caused uproar after announcing there would be no Christmas nativity scene at the local cemetery this year because it could offend Muslims and atheists.

Fr Sante Braggiè said there would be no crib in the cemetery in the northern city of Cremona because it may anger people of others faiths or none whose relatives are buried there.

“A small corner of the cemetery is reserved for Muslim graves,” Fr Braggiè said. “A crib positioned within sight of them could be seen as a lack of respect for followers of other faiths, hurt the sensibilities of Muslims, as well as Indians and even atheists.”

He also cited a lack of council workers to set up the crib as another reason for abandoning the tradition.

Corriere della Serra reports that Fr Braggiè’s predecessor as local priest, Fr Oreste Mori, strongly criticised the decision, saying: “Seriously? I can’t believe it!”

“We cannot renounce our culture and traditions,” he said. “That would be an unpardonable weakness.”

“I am, for the time being at least, in Italy, not Saudi Arabia.”

Thousands of Muslim migrants have resettled in Cremona, which was primarily Christian before the refugee resettlement invasion took place. They are one of many cities in Italy that have been terraformed by Islam. The decision has also been criticized by local politicians, including regional Councillor Cristina Cappellini. La Repubblica quotes her as saying: “I hope Fr Braggiè changes his mind and apologizes to the community.” I wouldn’t count on it… it sounds like he is of the same mindset as the Pope and is looking to collude with Islam, not strengthen Christianity.

The local chief of the conservative Lega Nord, Pietro Burgazzi, also said: “I hope the decision not to put up a crib was not ideological, but hearing the criticisms it seems that it was. I want to stress the importance of the Christmas crib as a sign of Christian witness, which is always appreciated by the people of Cremona.” The people there need to stand up to this or they will be conquered by Islam once and for all with the help of certain Catholic priests.
