Big Brother to Keep a Close Eye on Houston

Rest easy, comrades — as promised, the Manchurian Moonbat continues to halt the rise of privacy[1]. In Houston[2]:

The city is installing 250 to 300 cameras at downtown intersections in an effort to prevent and fight terrorism and crime, part of a security initiative sponsored by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. …

More than 50 cameras already have been installed around the George R. Brown Convention Center, Discovery Green Park, the theater district and Minute Maid Park. Every downtown intersection will be equipped with a camera.

Even some parks may be getting cameras, lest terrorists launch an assault on Houston’s infidel pigeons.

Don’t worry about the costs. Taxpayers have plenty of money, and when that runs out, Ben Bernanke can always print more. As for privacy, we’re told we have “no expectation” of it anyway.

Maybe we could take our rulers’ attempts to keep us “safe” by putting us under microscopes at face value if they showed some sign of targeting the people actually likely to do us harm. But with political correctness taking such obvious precedence over security, it’s hard not to suspect that public surveillance is an end in itself.
