Congress just released their proposed budget plan, which would keep the government funded through September. By most accounts, it was a failure for conservatives. Planned Parenthood kept their funding, Obamacare would continue to receive money as well, Donald Trump’s border wall would not get paid for. And climate change programs are being funded as well.
Donald Trump wanted to decrease funding for climate change and environmental programs, and he was able to make budget cuts to those departments. Still, the budget plan released by the House Rules Committee still managed to keep the money flowing.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has had their budget decreased by 1.5%… yet the Oceanic and Atmospheric Research Office is getting a $15.8 million increase. Climate change research will be receiving $158 million.
Trump also ordered a $30 million cut to the National Sea Grant Service. However, it will continue to be funded in the proposed budget, to the tune of $65 million. Both Donald Trump and Barack Obama requested to eliminate the Pacific Coastal Salmon Recovery Fund. But both failed — it will continue to receive full funding, with approximately $65 million in the new budget.
Trump had also requested a $1 billion investment in the National Weather Service, but this evidently will not happen. Their budget has been decreased by approximately $9 million.
In John Hawkins’ new book, ‘101 Things All Young Adults Should Know’, he teaches in number 17 of the book that if you want to know what a person really believes, watch their actions.
How are we to judge the actions of congressional Republicans? What do they believe? It seems that principles are seriously lacking in the GOP and for all of Trump’s bluster about being able to make the best deals, that hasn’t happened yet. Instead, conservatives are getting disappointed time and time again. So, judging by the actions of Republicans, they don’t believe in conservative ideals at all.
