Obama May “Ratify” Climate Treaty While Meeting With Communist Tyrant

No wonder he plays so much golf. Being President isn’t a big enough job to keep Obama busy. So it looks like he will start doing the Senate’s work too, by ratifying treaties[1]:

The White House on Monday defended President Obama’s decision to enter into the Paris climate accord without Senate ratification but stopped short of confirming a Chinese report that he will do so this week during his trip to China.

Still, it would surprise no one if Mr. Obama and Chinese President Xi Jinping were to announce the ratification of the sweeping climate change agreement before the Sunday opening of the Group of 20 summit in Hangzhou, Zhejiang.

White House senior adviser Brian Deese said the president has the legal authority to ratify the accord without the two-thirds Senate vote required for treaties. He said the pact negotiated by 195 countries in December is merely an “executive agreement.”

If Obama didn’t need Senate ratification for the treaty that fast-tracks Iran’s nuclear weapons program[2], why should he need one to hamstring the economy by tightening centralized economic control in the name of the global warming hoax?

Deese confirmed that he traveled to China last week to meet with officials on the Paris Agreement, which calls for nations to adopt emissions limits with the aim of holding increases in global temperatures “well below” 2 degrees Celsius from pre-industrial levels.

You would think there is a planetary thermostat in the basement of the United Nations, and we just need to come to an agreement on the optimum temperature to set it at. Yet not even the world’s worst tyrants have achieved that level of totalitarian control — not that Obama isn’t trying his hardest:

Critics fear that the executive branch will use the Paris Agreement, while not legally binding, to enact sweeping climate policies without Congress.

That’s the plan[3], all right.

The Founding Fathers intended Congress to be the most powerful branch, since it is the most directly answerable to the people (the House) and the states (the Senate, until progressives ruined that provision with the 17th Amendment[4]). But now the Legislative Branch is so weak, it is almost superfluous.
