5 Reasons I Created a GoFundMe for Brett Kavanaugh’s Family

I created a GoFundMe account for Brett Kavanaugh’s family and you can contribute to it here[1]. It has raked in almost $30,000 and it is doing so well that GoFundMe has given me my own rep I can reach out to if there is any kind of issue. If we keep going like this, we may get two GoFundMe reps. So, why did I create a GoFundMe account for Brett Kavanaugh’s family?

1. Brett Kavanaugh’s family is receiving death threats

Imagine spending your whole life as a judge, then being falsely accused of crimes you didn’t commit, putting your family’s life in danger as they’re deluged with comments like this[2]:

“Please tell your rapist, lying, cheating, corrupt b—h of a husband to put a bullet in his ugly f—–g skull,” one email to Kavanaugh’s wife read. “My condolences to you for being married to a rapist. Although you probably deserve it.”

First-rate security is not cheap and those of us who appreciate Brett Kavanaugh putting himself in the line of fire should be willing to help him out. If we don’t back good men like Brett Kavanaugh, one day we may not have men like that willing to serve our country.

2. The Kavanaugh family is not rich

For whatever reason, many people seem to just assume that Brett Kavanaugh is rich. Although he’s certainly not dirt poor, an article called “Brett Kavanaugh may become the ‘poorest’ Supreme Court justice[3]” shows that he’s not rich.

As of December 31, Kavanaugh had between $15,001 and $50,000 in an interest-bearing Bank of America account, and less than $15,000 in Vanguard funds within a 401(k) plan offered by the Employee Retirement System.

Kavanaugh certainly isn’t living hand-to-mouth, but he’s also not rolling in Kennedy money either and the cash he may be spending on security for his family could be doing serious damage to his bank account. Someone stepping up to represent originalist ideas on the Supreme Court shouldn’t have to deal with that.

3. If Kavanaugh can be taken down like this, why not any Republican?

It’s supposed to be innocent until proven guilty, not innocent until accused. The idea that a man with an impeccable reputation can be destroyed by a woman who doesn’t know the time, date or location of the supposed attack 36 years ago and another whose memory is so foggy that she’s been telling her own friends she doesn’t know if Kavanaugh was involved is nuts. If they can get Kavanaugh that way, why not Mike Pence? Why not James Mattis? Why not Ted Cruz? Why not any Republican in a tight race? If all it takes are unprovable allegations to sink Republicans, you can be sure that liberals will find them by the dozens.

4. If Kavanaugh can be taken down like this, why not any man?

There really is such a thing as a slippery slope and if you have a prominent man of unimpeachable character who is absolutely ruined by ludicrous decades-old allegations, why can’t any man be destroyed the same way? If Kavanaugh doesn’t survive this, do you survive similarly flimsy accusations when they’re brought up a decade or two from now? Does your father? Does your brother? Does your son? Allegations like this need to be decided in a court of law based on the evidence, not in a publicly orchestrated witch hunt that has almost nothing to do with the facts.

5. There needs to be a public show of support for Kavanaugh

The Democrats who are maliciously smearing the judge need to know that a lot of people aren’t buying it and the Republicans in the Senate need to understand how strong the support is for Kavanaugh. Money talks and seeing the numbers swell up on a GoFundMe is proof that there are a lot of people other than talking heads on Twitter backing Kavanaugh. Your donations are a statement and, worst case scenario, if the judge’s family doesn’t need the money or can’t take it, it goes to a charity of their choice.

With that in mind, why not chip in a few bucks[4]?
