In response to last week’s brutal dousing of gas, igniting and burning to death of the captured Jordanian fighter pilot by the ISIS “JV Team,” King Abdullah of Jordan is now fulfilling his promise to pulverize them until his country is depleted of bombs and bullets. The King made this statement in the company of President Obama while they visited together in the once world-respected Oval Office. The King’s anger was on parade as he reportedly quoted the great cinema legend Clint Eastwood’s bloodcurdling line fromUnforgiven, “Any man I see out there, I’m gonna shoot him. Any sumbitch takes a shot at me, I’m not only gonna kill him, but I’m gonna kill his wife, all his friends and burn down his damn house.”
If I could have provided the King directorial advice, I would have suggested a different line borrowed from my favorite Eastwood flick, Gran Torino. When asked by a reporter how the Kingdom of Jordan plans to respond to the deadly ISIS terror organization, (I mean the JV overseas contingency group of malcontents), perhaps the King should have glared deeply into the camera lens while softly, sternly quoting Eastwood’s Walt Kowalski character stating “ever notice how you come across somebody every once in awhile you shouldn’t have f—– with? That’s me.” Spitting a plug of tobacco in the midst of that little speech would have provided the King a fascinating dramatic effect just as Clint did perfectly well.
What a relief to see a leader stand up to evil rather than to turn his head from reality and spew that “peaceful religion” diatribe. Murdering innocents, female genitalia mutilation, Christian annihilation, hanging gays from cranes and enforcing Sharia law blanketing any semblance of human rights is not my idea of a peaceful religion.
There is considerable irony in King Abdullah’s use of Clint Eastwood’s quote while in the company of a White House more in sync with Michael Moore and Seth Rogen. Upon hearing Abdullah’s threat, can you imagine Valerie Jarrett sticking her finger in her mouth to simulate gagging? There is no telling how many pieces of Nicorette Mr. Obama must have chomped on trying to control his agitation and boredom while listening to the King’s determined words. A nervous John Kerry must have dashed to the communications room to convey the King’s strong comments to world leaders including his Ayatollah friends in Iran; pulling them away from their nuclear enrichment plants and endless threats to destroy Israel and the West just long enough to hear the Secretary of State’s exasperated concerns. After all, the Obama Administration assures us, ISIS is just a bunch of rowdy kids, more of an irritation than a threat and the “War on Terror” ended the day the White House hushed up the use of those three words.
But the reality is that the Middle East is on fire. ISIS has destroyed our victory in Iraq and usurped Northern Syria. Hillary Clinton’s old buddy and dictator of Syria, Bashar Assad, continues to murder his own people, numbering over 200,000 victims. Obama warmly greets representatives of the Muslim Brotherhood at the White House while our ally Egypt fights that terror organization and Libya has fallen into complete and utter chaos. Hezbollah and Hamas pursue their reign of terror against Israel; the only shining example of freedom in the Middle East, and if not stopped (which they won’t be by this Administration) Iran’s acquisition of nuclear weapons will establish an unimaginable nightmare scenario. But the Obama Administration brushes off their spectacular foreign policy failures by suggesting we not worry. According to that bunch, we will always have a few irritating “overseas contingencies”. Otherwise, you would be well advised to turn off FOX and take up golf. Anything we need to know, there’s always Brian Williams and NBC Nightly News.
Well … maybe not.
I am amazed we have not heard condemnation of Jordan from the Secretary of State’s Jen Psaki and Marie Harf; the two most irritating and unqualified spokespersons to grace our green earth. I find this surprising as the Kingdom did not drop thousands of leaflets alerting ISIS of an impending attack nor did they call the terrorists’ cell phones just in case they missed the memo. And talk about a disproportionate response! Jordan is using F-16 fighter jets to bomb the JV Team! King Abdullah himself reportedly piloted a sortie mission, probably disrupting much more than a ISIS volley ball tournament. Any moment, I expect Mr. Kerry to waive a cease-fire agreement between Jordan and ISIS allowing the latter enough time to re-arm.
Oh, how naïve of me. We are discussing Jordan – not Israel.
Personally, I commend the King of Jordan for reacting with force. As an American, I applaud his blunt statements and specific action we so grossly lack from our current Administration.
It is refreshing when a leader recognizes an enemy by name and sets out to destroy it before the sands of time fill the bottom of our hourglass. As Clint perfectly stated in a phrase leaders should adhere to: “I tried being reasonable, I didn’t like it.”
