DOJ SLAMS Obama Admin. For Allowing Rampant Sexual Harassment, Groping, Office Sex

After reviewing sexual offenses from years back, the Inspector General is very disappointed with Obama’s Department of Justice.

The Inspector General of the DOJ, Michael Horowitz has signed off on a new report that says he and his agents found “systemic” issues with how complaints were being addressed in the DOJ while Obama was President. The officials who were the subject of complaints were found to often be let off without any trouble, or were granted rewards afterwards.

The major bombshell in the report states that one lawyer, who was accused of groping two female attorneys and an official with the U.S. Marshals office was also found to have had engaged in sex with nine women in his office.

While there are always new complaints emerging in the DOJ, given that they host 115,000 employees, the report shows that the worst offenses seem to have happened during the Obama Administration compared to the relative calm of the first 11 months of the Trump administration.

A spokesperson for the Trump Justice Department wouldn’t comment on specific cases, but agreed that the trouble was mostly under the watch of the previous administration:

“…the Department was very disappointed with the issues that occurred in the Obama administration and strives for a workplace free of harassment and other misconduct… that is why the Civil Division has implemented additional safeguards and systems to ensure that all misconduct allegations are handled appropriately going forward.”

Michael Horowitz has been the Inspector General for the Department of Justice since 2012. He is responsible for over 450 staffers who are responsible for rooting out misconduct on the part of DOJ. Right now, there are 73 Inspectors General overseeing different government departments.

Horowitz sent a memo in May letting the DOJ know he was coming for them and their “systemic issues.”

One stand-out case of officials being accused of harassment was Victor Lawrence, an attorney in the Office of Immigration Litigation. After reportedly groping two female attorneys at a happy hour, he was reprimanded and had his title changed, but did not suffer any loss of pay. At the time, it was believed that if he were suspended from his job it would “deprive the government” of his expertise.

More attorneys, also in the Civil Division mentioned by the DOJ spokesperson, were given bonuses for performance after having complaints lodged against them.

Unfortunately, while Horowitz can uncover this gross behavior, he is unable to hand down any discipline[3].
