Wendell Joyner woke up to a burning house, but that wasn’t the worst part of his day. He was arrested for disorderly conduct after he attempted to return to the home to rescue his four-legged family[1] members.

From The Daily Mail[3]:

A Florida man has been arrested and charged after ‘breaking into’ his own home to attempt to rescue his three dogs after the property caught fire.

Police in Brevard County say Wendell Joyner refused to listen to firefighters after a fire was sparked by a faulty television inside his house in Cocoa – east of Orlando – on Wednesday morning.

However Mr Joyner says he was just trying to save his beloved pets, who were stuck inside, after waking up to find his duplex filled with smoke.

‘I got out of the house and then I realized, ”Oh, wait a minute, my dogs are in there”, ‘ Mr Joyner told Click Orlando.

Mr Joyner continued: ‘So, I went back inside to look for my dogs.’

Overcome with smoke, the 58-year-old had to keep running back outside during his attempts to find the dogs.

Finally, he grabbed a firefighter’s ax that was lying on the grass, and tossed it threw a front window.

That is when deputies tackled Mr Joyner, causing numerous facial and injuries.

He was then arrested.

Fortunately, the dogs made it out of the house just in time.

Mr Joyner was transported to hospital for a CAT scan, before being booked into Brevard County Jail, where he was charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.

Do you think the police did the right thing here?
