There is an old joke that goes something like this…
Ron was suffering from a cold and cough. Eventually, since he seemed not to be improving, he decided to visit his family doctor.
“Oh, Doc,” he moaned. “I have such a bad cold. Please cure me.”
After a long hesitation, the young doctor fresh out of medical school told Ron to go home and take a hot bath, then stand beneath an air conditioner turned to the highest setting.
Ron was totally confused and wanted to know how this odd remedy would cure his cold.
“Oh,” said the doctor. “There is no cure for the common cold, but if you do what I tell you you’ll definitely get pneumonia. And that, I know how to cure.”
We thought of that one when we saw this head-shaker…
When a New York woman realized her purse had been stolen, she decided it would be a good idea to call in a bomb threat so the authorities would arrive quicker.
Long Island native Lisa Ruberto was spending the day in Manhattan with a friend, and the two were hanging out at the chi-chi Gansevoort Hotel in the Meatpacking District:
While the two were in the hotel lobby, Ruberto set down her purse, which had over $2,000 in it for car repairs she was going to make.
That’s when someone allegedly ran off with her handbag, according toNYDailyNews:
After realizing she’d been robbed, Ruberto frantically called the police, which is where she royally screwed up.
Instead of saying her purse had been stolen, she initially said she was involved in some sort of family dispute.
Ruberto then called back moments later and told 911 dispatchers she thought a bomb might explode in the hotel:
When the first patrol officer arrived, Rubetro identified herself and explained that her purse was stolen. Then she admitted she made up the family dispute and bomb claims.
The officer called off the bomb squad and proceeded to file her stolen bag report. Then she was arrested for reckless endangerment and was issued a desk appearance ticket.
She is due back in court next month.
What’s really funny about this is Ms. Ruberto has a Criminal Justice degree from West Virginia University.
Pro tip: don’t ever escalate things with the police. Especially don’t escalate them by turning yourself from a victim of a crime to a perp.
