Man in Joe McKnight road rage case – this isn’t his first incident! [VIDEO]

This looks very bad all the way around.[1] Ronald Gasser shot former NFL player Joe McKnight outside New Orleans last Thursday from the driver’s seat of his car in a case of road rage. McKnight didn’t make it. There were all sorts of rumors floating around. One said that Gasser stood over McKnight as he apologized and shot him to death. That did not happen. They now have forensic evidence that Gasser was sitting in his car when he shot McKnight. Gasser has confessed to the shooting.

What is just jaw droppingly mind blowing is they just released Gasser. The police say he is cooperating and not going anywhere, but damn! He confessed and now they let him go? That doesn’t seem right. Of course, I don’t have all the facts, but if I were McKnight’s family, I’d want answers fast. Gasser was also involved in another road rage incident ten years ago at the very same intersection where this occurred. He followed that man into a convenience store and punched him repeatedly. Gasser was charged with a misdemeanor summons for simple battery. Those charges were also mysteriously dropped. I’m beginning to wonder if this guy knows someone higher up that is giving him cover.

From NBC News:

The man who fatally shot former NFL player Joe McKnight outside New Orleans — in an incident that the sheriff said began as a case of “road rage” — was charged in a road rage case a decade ago but the charge was dismissed, authorities said.

Ronald Gasser, 54, shot McKnight three times from the driver’s seat of his Infinity in the New Orleans suburb of Terrytown at around 2:43 p.m. Thursday, authorities said. He remained at the scene following the shooting until law enforcement arrived and admitted to the shooting, the sheriff’s office said.

In a press conference on Friday, Jefferson Parish Sheriff Newell Normand alluded to Gasser’s previous arrest, but he could not recall the details.

The sheriff’s public information office commander, Col. John Fortunato, explained later in an email that Gasser had been arrested 10 years ago — Feb. 20, 2006 — at the same intersection where the shooting occurred.

According to Fortunato, Gasser followed an individual who had attempted to report him for reckless driving into a service station, where he verbally assaulted the individual and then struck him with a closed fist several times.

There haven’t been any riots over this and only one gathering that could be called a semi-protest. McKnight was unarmed and died at the scene. After the shooting on Thursday, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office took Gasser into custody, but he was released later that night and no charges were filed. The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office said it would consult with local prosecutors to decide whether a grand jury would be convened to review possible charges.

McKnight’s family simply wants answers. They aren’t rushing to judgement here… they are better people than I am. I would be livid over this. This case makes no sense to me. A talented man is dead and his killer is walking the streets. That sure doesn’t sound like justice to me.
