Parents Say They Forgive Sons Who Tried To Murder Them For Insurance Money

If your children attempted to kill you to cash in on your life insurance, would you be able to forgive them? That’s exactly what Yvonne and Zachery Ervin[1] did after being beaten, strangled and stabbed by their two boys, one of whom has admitted to having fantasized about murdering his parents for the money since he was 11.

From The Daily Mail[3]:

A Georgia couple said Friday they have forgiven two sons accused of trying to kill them by drugging and brutally attacking them before attempting to blow up the family’s suburban Atlanta home.

Yvonne and Zachery Ervin, both 50, spoke publicly for the first time since the alleged September 5 attack with local news media outlets outside Gwinnett County Court.

Their sons, Christopher Ervin, 22, and Cameron Ervin, 17, face charges including aggravated assault and arson after allegedly strangling and beating Yvonne and stabbing Zachary.

Standing next to his wife, who still had bruises on her face from the attack, Zachary said: ‘We forgive our sons and we love them unconditionally.

‘We had to make sure they understand that.’

Friday was the first time the Ervins had been at a hearing for the brothers, WSB-TV reported.

‘Those were not our boys that did that to us,’ Yvonne said.

‘We did not raise our boys that way.

‘We understand there are consequences for what they did, they understand that, but we’re just praying that the world forgives them the same way that we forgive them.’

A search warrant released earlier in the week revealed one of the brothers had fantasized about murdering his parents and collecting the insurance money ever since he was 11.

Police did not indicate whether it was Christopher or Cameron.

The couple declined to discuss the motive for the attack and instead spread a positive message.

Yvonne said: ‘God has done miraculous healing with us.

‘We’re doing great. We’re healing both mentally and physically.’

I’m in between “good for you for being the better people” and “your sons were thugs, plain and simple.” Even if I could bring myself to forgive my child for attempting to kill me, you’d better believe I’d have my CCW on my person at all times after filing a restraining order.
