Rapper DMX Gets 6-Month Jail Sentence for Not Paying Child Support

Rap singer DMX has been sentenced to a six-month jail term for refusing to pay the $400,000 in child support he owes.

DMX was arrested[1] just as he was to go on stage for a show at Radio City Music Hall on June 26.

The 44-year-old rapper, whose real name is Earl Simmons, was placed in the Erie County Holding Center in Buffalo Tuesday, the county sheriff’s office said.

Those “issues” included $400,000 worth of unpaid child support, a warrant issued by the city of White Plains for bail jumping and a robbery complaint out of Newark, NJ.

In 2008 DMX was ruled to be the father of Maryland resident Monique Wayne’s son and ordered to pay the woman $1.5 million in child support.

The rapper has a long criminal record having been arrested many times, for offenses such as possession of drugs, animal cruelty, parole violation, driving without a license and driving under the influence of alcohol.

DMX’s last arrest was in Nov. of 2013 when he was arrested by the Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport police near Greer, South Carolina after they saw him illegally driving a vehicle. DMX was booked on charges of driving under suspension, having an uninsured vehicle, and not having a licensed vehicle. He was released after spending three hours in jail.
