Ursula Presgrave, a reality TV star, is facing time in prison for a Facebook post that said, “Anyone born with Down’s syndrome should be put down.”

Metro News reported[1]:

Ursula Presgrave, who has appeared on BBC3’s fly-on-the-wall series The Call Centre, wrote on Facebook that children with born with Down’s should be killed because it was ‘cruel to let them lead a pointless life of a vegetable.

The 23-year-old today pleaded guilty to an offence under the Malicious Communications act and could now face six months in prison or a £5,000 fine. Swansea Magistrates’ Court heard how police also found jokes about the disabled on her mobile phone.

Prosecutor Linda Baker said, “Her mobile phone was seized, and found to contain numerous photos holding slogans mocking people with Down’s syndrome.”

The UK’s Malicious Communications Act[2] makes it illegal to “send or deliver letters or other articles for the purpose of causing distress or anxiety.”
