Army Captain Kelly Elmlinger has been active all her life. But the avid runner and Army medic was diagnosed with synovial sarcoma, a rare soft-tissue tumor in her lower leg, which eventually made her leg very weak. But after nine surgeries, now she has her sights set on a new sports challenge.

The Captain beat her cancer but after nine surgeries her leg was so weakened that she’ll never be able to run again. In fact, it is difficult to even walk for her. But none of these things are stopping her.

She is now competing in the 1500 Meter Wheelchair Race!

As Captain Elminger told Military.com[1].

“I didn’t care what they did to my leg. I didn’t care what I had to go through,” she said. “[My daughter] Jayden is my driving inspiration.”

“She’s why I get up every morning, why I challenge myself, why I continue to set goals and why I want to continue to be a better person.”

There’s no keeping this woman’s indomitable spirit down!
