VIDEO: There is a now WORKING PROTOTYPE of a FLYING CAR

Sleek, fast and beautiful… the AeroMobil is the wave of the future. A Flying car conceived by Stefan Klein in Slovakia, that brings a long-held dream by millions to life on the roads and in the sky. When I looked at this car, I thought of The Fifth Element, Blade Runner or even, Star Wars. The future beckons and das auto gives a thrill as no other[1].

From Mashable[2]:

Slovakian startup AeroMobil announced the world premiere of the AeroMobil 3.0 at the Pioneers Festival in Vienna on Wednesday. It’s an idea 25 years in the making, and the company’s third working prototype.

Stefan Klein, founder of the Department of Transport Design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Slovakia, designed the personal transportation vehicle. Although Klein has been working on the concept since 1989, it wasn’t until 2010 that things got real: He commercialized the project by starting AeroMobil[3].

“We believe personal transportation is about to change forever,” AeroMobil chief executive Juraj Vaculik said at a press conference.

There have been many concepts for flying vehicles, and it seems only a matter of time before one is mass produced. The European Union has supported research into the MyCopter[4] in hopes that a flying vehicle could help ease transit congestion.

Flying cars have long been in the public’s imagination, thanks to movie concepts like the DeLorean in Back to the Future[5] and the Jetsons’ car[6].

AeroMobil said the vehicle is close to commercial availability, but certification — now underway in Slovakia — would be complicated and vary by country.

The car, which can carry two people, operates on the gas available at regular gas stations. It needs about 200 meters (650 feet) to take off, and only 50 meters (164 feet) to land. It can fly as fast as 124 miles per hour.

Let your adventurous side take a spin and explore the wild blue yonder all in one trip. This car is the first step into what will be ‘common’ transportation in the future. Cars that fly – we so need to update the FAA. It figures Europe would beat us to the punch, as America cannot even produce her own rockets these days as a country – ask NASA about that[7]. Only the private sector is coming forward with ingenuity such as this concept. Better line up for your driver’s/pilot’s licenses… but don’t wait on an Obama car.
