Wu-Tang Clan Sells COPY Of Their New Album For Millions & You Won’t Get To Hear It For 88 Years!

This is a little light on details.[1] The Wu-Tang Clan has sold an album reportedly for millions to an undisclosed American. No one will be allowed to hear the album for 88 years – it will be 2103 before it is released. Of course, most of us will be long gone by then and I doubt our children and grandchildren will even know who Wu-Tang Clan is. It sounds like a publicity stunt to me, but who knows? The album title is Once Upon A Time In Shaoolin and there was only one copy made. We don’t know who bought it or the exact purchase price, but online auction house Paddle8, claims it is true. Someone must really like their music. That’s just insane.

Beat That[2]

From Perez Hilton:

And we thought Taylor Swift refusing to stream her music on Spotify[3] was a bold statement!

Wu-Tang Clan finally sold their secret one-of-a-kind album Once Upon A Time In Shaolin — but don’t expect to be able to stream it anytime soon.

Because there is only one copy of the album in existence, and it was snagged by an anonymous buyer who bought it for millions of dollars!

According to online auction house Paddle8, the album by the surviving members of the rap collective was sold to an unidentified American buyer for “an undisclosed figure in the millions.”

The 31-track record is housed in a hand-carved box with a 174-page leather bound manuscript “printed on gilded Fedrigoni Marina parchment.”

But fans will have to wait a long time to get their hands it — because the record can’t be publicly released for 88 years!

Band member Robert Fitzgerald Diggs aka RZA explained the idea of selling a single copy as a work of art, detailing in a statement:

“The Wu-Tang Clan have always been driven by innovation, and this marks another moment in musical history. From the beginning, we hoped that this concept would inspire debate and new ways of seeing creativity.”

So… innovative…?

Paddle8 didn’t say how much was paid for the “work of art,” but it did reveal this was the most money ever spent on a single album — beating the $306,000 spent on the only existing album of The Quarrymen (a little band that later became The Beatles)!

We can’t wait! Be sure to tell your grandkids to listen to Once Upon A Time In Shaolin when it drops in 2103!

The album was sold as a work of art. Me thinks someone has way too much money and is bored. They are saying it is the most money ever spent on a single album. This for a group almost no one has ever heard of. The group spent nine years recording 31 tracks for this special LP. All backup copies of Once Upon a Time in Shaolin have now been erased, and the buyer will receive the sole remaining copy in a silver-plated jewel box. It also includes 174-page manuscript printed on leather-bound, gilded Fedrigoni Marina parchment with lyrics, credits and the story behind each song. Wu-Tang Clan also threw in a pair of customized $55,000 PMC MB2-XBD speakers. That will let the buyer listen to the album in style. The Wu-Tang Clan is an American hip hop group from New York City, originally composed of East Coast rappers RZA, GZA, Method Man, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, Inspectah Deck, U-God, Masta Killa and the late Ol’ Dirty Bastard. The group was formed in and is associated with the New York City borough of Staten Island.
